On Saturday 17th February 1996, Wolves travelled to Carrow Road where they beat Norwich 3-2 with 2 goals from Steve Bull and one for Australian Steve Corica on his debut.
On Saturday 17th February 2018 Wolves travel to Deepdale Stadium to take on Preston North End.
In the reverse fixture at Molineux, that game also ended 3-2 in favour of Wolves. It was a somewhat feisty affair in which Preston committed 17 fouls, were awarded 5 yellow cards and were reduced to 10 men. Wolves were awarded 3 yellow cards, a penalty and scored an own goal. After the match Nuno Espirito Santo had this to say "Refereeing is difficult and it is unfair for me to judge all the situations, but what I saw was too much holding on our players. He (referee Stephen Martin) must stop this and punish them. It's football, and holding is not part of football."
Unbelievably, Preston boss Alex Neil was also critical of the refereeing decisions despite the questionable behaviour of his players who were undoubtedly acting on his instructions.
Whilst Wolves sit atop the table with 71 points and 12 points clear of second placed Aston Villa, Preston sit just outside the playoff places in 7th position on 49 points. Of their 31 games to date they have drawn 13, only Sheffield Wednesday can match that figure. Of the top ten teams in the division, no-one has scored fewer goals this season.
Preston have won 12 games, 6 at home and 6 on the road however, they have taken some impressive scalps having beaten Bristol City, Sheffield United and Cardiff (twice).
With Preston being the home side the onus will be on them to take the game to Wolves and the travelling Wolves support will certainly be hoping for more of a game of football and less of a wrestling match.
Gem’s prediction 0-2

Don’t worry threadsters, Halfy is more than capable of catching the correct train out of Wolves. I have some first class tickets booked on the way up however, I couldn’t get them for the way back, so I’ll end up in peasant class.....unfortunately !
Should be enlightening

top tip for cattle class train travel:
get a table if you can and then crack open a couple of bottles of champagne, wear yr shades all the way home and speak really loudly to drown out the background drone of humdrum lives, which sounds like a slightly distorted wireless playing old Jeremy Kyle soundtracks and adverts for take-a-break magazine on a loop.
if you can avoid making eye contact with anyone and letting the real world break in on your senses you might just make it home sane.
