I agree. Its been won too many times by the hazards of this world. It really ought to be reduced to up and coming players who've made a big impact.

delli alli.. not much form but could come on strong now.

stelring deffo has scored most and should be in for it.

There are some under 21s in the Championship who more than merit a mention for this award as well.
Ryan Sessegnon, Diogo Jota, Ruben Neves to name but 3.

Sterling should have won it when Hazard did. An 18/19 year old having a season like he did that year deserved it more than a 23 year old established international with vast senior club experience.

If it was lowered to 21, the pool of players would be too small imo.

It doesn’t need to be a free-for-all though. Some 23 year olds are established international footballers so it’s not exactly fair that they can compete for an award with some 19 year old having a breakthrough season.

They have the overall award for a bigger pool of players.

I agree.

In some years you would end up giving awards to relatively mediocre seasons just because there are no outstanding candidates.

I doubt there has ever been a season where a player 21 or under hasn't had a very good season.
