How I Saw It

Romero - Did ok but either needs to take something off or put a bit more into his kicks upfield,

Young - Back to passing backwards apart from the one to Mata.

Lindlehof - Probably his best game for us.

Smalling - Utter rubbish

Shaw - OK defensively apart from getting drawn inside too many times

Carrick - Poor and in no mans land for most of the game.

Matic - Poor again and just lets players run past him.

McT - Full of energy but has no actual pace to get away from people. Not enough forward passes.

Sancez - quiet first half, much better in the second.

Lukaku - Best game for a long time. Still needs to chase more stuff down.

Mata - Good and bad the same as we often get with him. If he had any pace he would be one of the best players in the league.

On that note VC, probably quite a fair assessment of the game. As usual not too far from the pulse.

Smalling got the MOTM award.

___

He fecked up less often than usual, progress of sorts!

But in all seriousness he dominated his area, like should anyway given the opposition. My issue with him is far too often he comes across too soft, weak.

Exactly. Im not a great fan of Mike at all, but today he did well and deserved MOTM.

Lukaku showed tonight that he’s not some poacher who stands in the box and does nothing. He’s always been mobile than some think and can do well when given a half decent ball to run onto

Lukaku was MOTM for me. The back four was strong, calm and very tidy.

I thought Shaw did well first half with the overloading tactic they used down their right and our lack of response to it.

Carrick looked rusty but grew into the game, and McTominay did well enough. He'll improve with experience at this level. We need to remember he's still very green indeed in senior football.

Matic just isn't a number eight. OK, we have injury problems, but he should be playing at the central base of the midfield triangle: he isn't a substitute for Pogba. I think we'd have been better off with McT playing on the left of midfield and Lingard on the right today.

His all round play was excellent again today. Held it brilliantly, linked up very well, and was deadly with the chances he got.

For all Lukaku’s faults today’s games showed exactly what he excels at, running onto balls and using his strength to muscle opponents off. I give the guy stick and I’m still unsure if he’s the answer but he’s been good the past couple of games.
