While the first team have had a weekend off, it is behind the scenes where Arsenal seem to have been active.
A new deal with Emirates for shirt sponsorship - described as the "the largest sponsorship deal ever signed by the club" - has been announced today.
Sleeve sponsorship looks trashy, especially if you have an "Angry Birds" logo. However, it also brings in the £££s. This is another deal Arsenal are working on.
Then there is the kit deal. The Puma one runs out at the end of next season, so negotiations are well under way with numerous kit suppliers for beyond that. Again, that should be a "record breaking" deal for us.
There are also a lot of less obvious money making deals being worked on. Automotive partners, a partnership with Uganda to promote tourism to the African country as well as develop football relations, a deal with a tech company to allow them to develop 3D coverage.
During the January window there was talk about how we "couldn't afford to buy any more". This was down to wages, and the constrictions the rules put on increasing wage bills, rather than not having transfer funds. These deals will help us in these terms.
All of this is vital with the "self sustaining" model we try and follow.
And, no, these deals will not enable Kroenke to build a new ranch or pay for a stadium upgrade for one of his other sport teams...
Off the field growth...

They should've dropped the 'Fly' and just been 'Emirates' but I enjoy flying with them and we've got the best sponsor in the league for a few more years and Man Utd fans are caaaaants

Even after buying Aubameyang we have made a £m profit in transfers this season (summer and winter windows)

Very small profit, makes little impact on the net spend over the last 5 years. Plus our wage bill has increased, with more re-negotiations going on currently.

Our commercial revenue have lagged behind for ages. We currently make far less than United and City (by an absolute chasm in 9 figures each) and Chelsea and narrowly behind Liverpool despite several years of outperforming them. Even the toy tots who you would have presumed aren't close to our global pedigree are competitive with us.

That is because of the stadium. We signed long deals to secure the loan.

I still believe we sold ourselves short at the time and could have negotiated better - even allowing for the logic in securing long-term deals to help finance the stadium. We had been a top 2 side who won titles for ages, and were the biggest football club in Europe's biggest city with a global fanbase that by any measurable metrics would have ranked among Europe's top 5 at the time.
I still believe if a figure like Levy got his hands on our club, we'd be doing even better financially than we are now, though we've done a generally okay-ish job. Swiss Ramble was often pretty critical of Arsenal's performance in generating commercial revenue.

It is not a secret that our commercial revenue were/are c.rap compared to i) our competitor ii) a club of our size/pedigree.
But as DJ said, the stadium deal is where everything went wrong but we had no choice as the board policy was to not inject any kind of money on building the stadium. So we had to accept the best deal on the table.
What hurts the most is that this deal is supposedly running until 2028! Absolutely shocking.

Our mortgage payments on the Ashburton Grove stadium and Highbury redevelopment will run upto 2031, last time I checked.
More or less the repayment period you'd get for a house mortgage.
Nothing wrong with having a partner who can reliably turn up with the annual installments.
