Yeah and I do get that, but then sometimes it takes things like that or not getting injuries to key players that makes the difference (in both whether a team can get that achievement but also the fan perception of them).

His tactics last season and the balance of the side were excellent. I don’t think it’s Europe that’s scuppered them this time round, it’s the usual circus and slightly odd transfer policy!

I think Europe is contributing in that their squad depth is being shown up because of it. They’re getting more injuries as well. And Bakayoko and Morata haven’t adequately replaced Matic and Costa.

I think how Chelsea bottled the cup final to a joke side and how badly they’ve done this season will point to a team that were in the right place at the right time with zero euro distractions

Conte can’t win cups. They were clearly an excellent premier league side, even if they had things go their way. You do not get 93 points, winning 30 games of which 13 were in a row, without being an excellent team.

They were. But I very much doubt they’d have gotten so many points with Europe as a distraction.

We’ll never know. This season doesn’t prove anything with regard to last. The team isn’t the same.

We were magnificent that day & could have been 3 up by HT. They bottled nothing : they got out played at their own game & were probably a bit complacent, possibly thinking they were playing a ‘joke side’ as you so eloquently put it, you plastic glory hunting tw@

They need to win back-to-back titles and the champions league to be elevated to that level


United are the only side to win both the PL and CL in the same season aren't they?

I agree that a "great" team needs to retain their title or win it once by doing something unprecedented (going unbeaten, record points tally) also, I hate how people were throwing around terms like "undefeated season," "quadruple" etc after 15 games, like those things happen all the time.

People who come out with that kind of stuff don't take into account things like tonight, a red card which changes the game, defensive errors etc.

To be fair to win the treble you need luck. Guardiola 08-09 side also had a lot of luck.
