If it is to be Europa League next season...

would that actually be so bad?

Depending on who's picking the team, it could be a chance to see if our younger players are as good as some of our fans believe them to be.

If whoever is picking the team does take that route, it could actually turn out to be a fecked up blessing in disguise.

Before opposition fans chip in with "trying to convince himself that failure is a good thing" etc. I am thinking bigger picture.

How many group games are there in the Europa? If it's 6 then that's an opportunity to give our younger players more game time that i know they would not get in the Champions League.

Going by history it's more likely Roman will panic and we'll have a signing rush for one summer. Think the only reason we padded up the squad this season was Conte's demand for bodies, cos the last two seasons following a title win we seemed happy with a squad that leaned on youth with just a few injuries.

That being said talk of EL is still premature. We usually finish seasons strong and have Pool & Spurs at home to come. Far from doomed yet.

I don't think that Roman would be too pleased to have a 60% drop in annual profits,by missing out on the C/L..................

a la Arsenal !

May be bad in retaining our best player. God knows what happening of the pitch but champions league would help in regards to the new stadium.

We're lucky that now we are one of the top 10 biggest teams in the world. A year or two out would not make much difference in that regard, but the fact is we have not had a consistent league challenging team since 2010 and this needs to be addressed. We cannot keep yo-yoing every year.

Before this season we have challenged for 3 of the last 4 titles winning 2, thats consistent.

Even this year we would still have an outside chance in any other year.

Id happily sacrifice a season or 2 if we really gave the youth a chance to grow.. Bring throw the likes of Sterling, Chalobah, Ruben, Hudson-Odoi and Abraham.

We could add 1/2 world class players to our squad every summer so over time we have a mixture of youth products and elite level players - It is however a massive pipe dream.

Swap Ruben for Mount who's 20 times the player. RLC has found his level.

Just because we dropped to fifth place for one game does not mean we are gonna finish outside the top 4. Get a grip of yourself with that defeatist attitude

or in the last 6 years we have finished 10th, 6th and got knocked out the CL at group stages as defending champs. We have not been consistent at all. far from it. We have either been the best in the country, or poor.

It would harm Chelsea's reputation as a topteam, so yes it would be bad.
