VAR has to be implemented and persisted with in the future or we go back to seeing injustices that stink the place out. The problem so far and especially tonight is that it's like giving a computer to a chimp and expecting him to write software for the next big selling online game. Blame the officials not the technology. It will take time to get it right.

That’s my point. Think back to that mug Webb when he gave that penalty to United when we lost up there, not to mention the Mendes goal. VAR would have got those decisions right and eliminated the bottling refs

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I’m convinced. 15 years ago a decision went against us so yeah let’s stick with this shambles.

Let’s not cheer goals til we see the 9th replay. Fun
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That was an example off the top of my head. There have been plenty of instances of refs clearly bottling decisions or just outright incompetence and them being covered with the “well he only saw it once and had to call it” line to save them.

Sooner or later someone will get a decision horribly wrong in a cup final or title decider and we’ll never hear the end of it. I want the correct decision to be made.

Some people were against goal line technology being used. How many still hold that view now? It will take time to perfect VAR but if it leads to more correct decisions and reduces bad/wrong decisions then I think that should be the way forward. If used properly it will.

Of course it will improve. The thing which they can never improve though is the fact that it removes the joy of celebrating a goal. If it hits the back of the net you cheer. This will stop that...it already has for me. 6 times we scored and every time after the first one I was waiting for the image of the ref to see what’s happening rather than celebrating or watching the players run off.

I’d rather they got it wrong and at my own team’s expense than have the joy of a goal removed from the game...or muted somewhat.

If an offside goal is given against us but overturned by VAR wouldn't you be pleased? Or would you rather sit there stewing and muttering how unfair it is?

If you're best argument against VAR is that now and again it would delay you're celebrating a goal then that's pretty weak imo.

Now and again? It’s every time. I said that in my post. It’s weak to want to celebrate the goal when X player scores it and not when it passes through a panel of people in reading first?

The joy of football is the emotion right? Well for me anyway. This tempers it. There’s no way anybody celebrates a goal or has the same feeling for a goal after its passed for review rather than the heat of the moment. You’re removing that with VAR. undeniable.

If that’s weak then so be it. I enjoy the emotional side of the game. Not the terms and conditions.

Didn't watch the game but just seen that decision and read about the other 'decisions' and it seems a bit of a farce to be honest.

How can they make such a hash of it all after watching video replays!?!??!

It's a bit ridiculous - but lots of fun

Until they mike up the ref, and the VAR ref people won't like it

It works on cricket because that sport is more receptive to it. There are phases of play - ie once a ball is bowled the phase is played.

To be honest I’d rather put up with shiiit decisions and get some lucky ones then go through this VAR nonsense.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
At the moment I agree, however if it is used correctly there is potential for it to work.

It can only be used for very clear decisions at the right time.

e.g Zizou's headbutt in the WC, Lampards goal over the line, Drogba's offside at OT.

Agreed. May have changed 1966 World Cup final too, disqualifying 3rd goal..

Maybe, but even now I can't see whether that was over?

I guess goal line tech covers that one, however there are still clear instances in which it can be useful.
