Michael O'Neill

****************************************************************
Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill has claimed the Football Association of Ireland targets Catholic players to switch allegiance to the Republic.
****************************************************************

By stating this, whether true of false, Michael O'Neill has just declared his lack of class and total hypocrisy!

Is this not the same Michael O'Neill who, once his previous contract with N.I. had expired marketed himself? However nobody wanted him except the SFA? Then when he signed up again with N. Ireland he gave us this nonsense about loyalty and dedication?

Michael, N. Ireland has enough social and political issues to deal with, your bitterness at being rejected by most of the football community should maybe tell you to simply keep your mouth shut. You don't always have to have an opinion on everything and perhaps you are not really quite as good as you think you are!

He does have a point, as N Ire manager it must annoy the he’ll out of you you will lose any Good Catholic players to ROI even though they were born in the North, It’s the players choice.

Boy beside me in Belfast office said this was going nuts on Irish News social media!

ROI do stalk NI players!

After NI youth train them up😠

But, up to the individual and up to NI fans etc to make it Sport for All.

👍

As an NI fan I loved watching Pat Jennings, Martin O'Neill, Gerry Armstrong for example play for us....no need for any young Catholic player to not play for NI,,but if some decide otherwise, OK!

Sport should unite.

Plenty of ulster prods play in and support Ireland rugby.

OP

Do you admit ROI goes after certain nordie players?

Michael is from a catholic nationalist background, BTW.

Maybe it needs saying.

It was the same in Scotland when McGeady and McCarthy choose Ireland over Scotland, it’s there choice and as you say NI want them so bad they have to put the effort in.

I also think it will help with NI being the better of the two nations right now.

Northern Ireland are an inclusive team and the manager has spoke the truth.

Saying that there is always a silver lining. we dodged a bullet when O'Kane declared for the Republic. The worst player I have ever seen in a Leeds shirt. And that's saying something.

Took a while, but it looks that O'Neill is now stepping back from his original accusatory statement and is now claiming that he was really talking about a "communication" problem between the FAI and the IFA.

Maybe, just maybe, it is O'Neill who has the communication problem?
