His second spell was a bit underwhelming which has took the gloss off his first spell a bit and not many people seem to talk about it as much any more. I felt bringing up the subject because in my opinion even though his spell was only a few months he was up there with Jose mark 1 and Conte last season in the aura of confidence and invincibility he brought about the place.
He came in at a time we weren't playing well at-all and looked unfit and instantly brought the confidence back in the team and the fans, we were playing with a swagger and confidence probably for the first time since 05/06.
The highlight of his reign apart from the FA Cup has to be the CL run (even though we didn't win it) and it showed just how under-rated tactically he was in his prime. In the quarter final we headed up to Anfield to face Liverpool managed by Benitez, at the time Rafa had a reputation of being a great tactician in European fixtures and given he beat Capello once, Jose twice in recent years and got Liverpool to two finals winning one you can say it was justified but he was no match for Hiddink that night, we went to Anfield and outplayed Liverpool comprehensively, it was 3-1 and should have been 5 or 6. We had a bit of a scare back at The Bridge but Hiddink's masterclass at Anfield was enough.

We would have lost to United in Rome if we had reached the final. Playing against Barca was all about tactics and we found the right tactics to beat them. Man Utd under Ferguson didn’t have a specific style we could counter and it would have come down to the quality of the teams, which Man Utd edged us out at that point.

Fergie was the greatest ever manager, but if there was one aspect of his game he could be got at, it was tactically.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But Man Utd were flexible under Ferguson, they didn’t have a certain style that could be countered like Barcelona under Guardiola or even Liverpool. They were more like us in that they could adapt to who they were facing meaning they would have been harder opponenents for us.

They did, lighting quick breaks and getting the ball to Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney before the opposition could get back into shape (it's actually how they fecked us up in Moscow in the first half).

Also what i also want to note is the previous summer with Russia in the Euro's he managed to find a way to nullify and beat a Dutch team that looked up to that point like they were gonna romp to victory.

What were you like during the FA Cup win? Obviously i was happy we won the trophy but i was also gutted it was Guus's last involvement for us (well so we thought), was quite bittersweet celebrations
------------------------------------------------------------------
Honesty we were such a good team back then, which Guus reminded me of, that it was fine. Also helped that at the time I had more faith in Ancelotti than anyone on the old 606 did.
And looking back in hindsight it turned out OK. Only area Hiddink could've improved on Carlo was CL, and to be brutally honest we were knocked out by two managers who were at the absolute peak of their powers (especially 09-10 Jose). Probably wouldn't have made a difference.

They’re more flexible than a team like Barcelona who always play the same. In the end, I don’t know what would happen since we never did play United in any competition under hiddink that season, but I think they could have beaten us for sure.

Ofcourse they could have, but i don't think they would have. Its easy to say now but i had soooo much confidence in us under Guus the first time.

Yeah idk, I just don’t see it going as smoothly for us as our games against Liverpool and Arsenal under hiddink. Kind of a gut feeling. We’ll never know though I guess

I loved Hiddink as Chelsea manager and I think he would have done an equal job as permanent Chelsea manager like Carlo Ancelotti.I loved him and he would deserved to win Champions League with Chelsea in 2008-2009 season.

Slavisa Jokanovic is a surprise contender for the Chelsea job with the Fulham boss one of the names under consideration by the Premier League side’s board. Former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique will continue as overwhelming favourite to take over from Antonio Conte this summer but Jokanovic is impressing officials at his old club. The Serb played for Chelsea between 2000 and 2002 and is currently pushing for promotion with Championship Fulham, who have not lost in the league since December.
