Two big pieces of news have come out of Tannadice in the last 24 hours ahead of our, ahem, massive, erm, 'derby' with Brechin tomorrow afternoon.
The first of these concerns the return of club legend Paul Sturrock, who has now taken on the role of chief scout for England for the club. Leaving aside his status amongst the United faithful, we've got on board someone who has worked at every level of English football and will have a terrific contact book that we now have access to.
Mike Martin highlighted the problems we've had with recruitment - something I've spoken about a lot on here - and I'm glad we've moved to address this.
Naturally some have jumped on the negative bus straight away, as is natural amongst many of our fans, especially the twitterati. One of my mates is sadly part of that clique of United fans and, after a few hours of getting his views from his negative echo chamber, he came on our group chat saying this was a dreadful move, that Sturrock is not a well man (he has Parkinsons) and that he should be spending what time left he has with his family.
Leaving aside the fact that my mate is not Paul's GP and doesn't work for the Plymouth DWP, I'm not sure how well he knows Paul's physical or mental state and has no idea if he's physically or mentally capable of doing the job. Even if he wasn't able to attend games, as chief scout he can still use his considerable contacts to gather information on potential targets and organise the scouting of them.
It's a good appointment.
In contrast, the second piece of news is that yesterday, according to the Daily Fail, former Rangers player and all-round joke figure Bilel Mohsni trained with United. We last saw Mohsni getting sent off and trying to fight with Motherwell after Rangers lost in the play-offs. Putting aside the fact that he might still be suspended (not sure if it's reciprocal in France that he'd serve his suspension), the boy is a dud, a hothead and a genuinely terrible player. However the CBs that we have are also terrible so the scary thing is he might improve us. Regardless, I am hardly enamoured by this signing if it goes through.
So back to the, ahem, big game tomorrow. We desperately need a win and if we can't beat beleaguered Brechin then we may as well completely concede that we are not going up (although I'm already consigned to that). A huge 3 points tomorrow to hopefully turn us around.

Definitely many clubs would struggle down there, you can see why they are so protective of their league places through the play off system they agreed too
