Wolves v Burton Match preview [LIVE]

On Saturday 17th March 1973, Wolves played an FA cup quarter final match against Coventry City in front of a packed Molineux. Goals from John Richards and Kenny Hibbitt and a Phil Parkes clean sheet ensured that the home side progressed to the last 4 in the competition.

On Saturday 17th March 2018, Wolves welcome Burton Albion to Molineux and once again the stadium is expected to be packed.

Burton, currently second bottom in the league but with the worst goal difference in the division of -38 have managed to amass only 30 points from their 37 games so far.

In the reverse fixture at the Pirelli Stadium, Wolves recorded a 4-0 win and if Nigel Clough was watching Wolves’ midweek game against Reading, he will probably be expecting a similar result on Saturday.

After their lacklustre performance against Aston Villa, Nuno Espirito Santo once again ensured that his team bounced back with a convincing performance and an emphatic victory over a poor Reading side. Buoyed by Aston Villa dropping points on the same evening, Wolves go into this game 10 points clear of third placed Villa who have another banana skin away game against Bolton Wanderers.

Nuno is not expected to make any changes to the line-up that started against Reading, however, the injury which resulted in Diogo Jota limping off may see him side lined which would be an opportunity for Bright Enobakhare to return to the match day squad.

Should Wolves win this game, the pressure will be put firmly on second placed Cardiff City who, on Sunday 18th have a tricky game at Derby County. A loss there could see Nuno’s wolf pack opening the gap between the two teams to 6 points with just 8 more games to play.

Gem’s prediction: 4-0

Warnock Manager of the Season according to Rowett.

It's not over yet.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I dislike Warnock as much as is possible but I have to say to get his team of average players to where they are is an amazing feat.If he gets manager of the season fair play to him, he probably deserves it.

Agree Gem, i wouldn't argue if he gets it playing that crap style and getting that close to the title either, he certainly gets his players to respond and whilst the game is leaving some of the dinosaurs behind he is still making it work.

Would i swap him for Nuno though?? Even if we lost the title to them?

NOT IN A MILLION YEARS!!!!

Burton have a prediction thread, and they haven't shared it with us. Not very sporting...

I think that there is no doubt that in Neves/Saiss we have the best midfield in the league.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No doubt at all and the best midfield we have had at Wolves in several decades as well.

Had a wee spell thinking N'Diaye might suit us better but it has become obvious Neves doesn't fit his game as well as he does Saiss game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don’t think it matters whether we play N’Daiye or Saiss with Neves personally. Each have their positives and negatives. The Villa game was a one off and would have happened had Saiss started, as the majority of the problems stemmed from set pieces or poor defensive work from Batth or Boly.

Other than that, N’Daiye looked decent. It is Saiss’ place to lose at the moment though again.

I think we look far more solid and controlled with Saiss, just maybe not so flashy going forward

I think we play a slower tempo with Saiss and are more susceptible to being pressed in our own half. He gives us control when we aren’t pressed so high or when we play against weaker more fragmented teams.

N’Daiye can make us more dynamic going forward and is more physical and mobile in the midfield. He didn’t do a lot wrong in his spell starting to be honest and had some really good games, probably being more disciplined and better defensively than Saiss in the two games they started as a pair. He was just unfortunate to have started away against the two in form teams in this division and be a fall guy for it. It could easily been the other way round had Saiss started against Villa.

Both have their benefits and regardless of which on starts with Neves, we have the best midfield pairing in this division.

Getting a bit worried about snow forecast and rail journey from Kent, does not take much for trains to go up the spout

posted on 16/3/18

At the moment there is a forecast of 50% chance of snow in the West Midlands from 2:00 on Saturday morning then throughout the following 24 hours. But its not forecast to be a heavy downfall

Looking at Burton's form, they have only scored in one of their last 7 games. Be disappointing if we don't beat them as easily as we beat Leeds and Reading
