You Are Wrong Noel Whelan

Yes I admire your passion for Leeds United but you are wrong about defending.
You give the impression that there is little you can do as the manager to improve the defending.
Well there is plenty you can do

Manager can ditch the zonal marking for a start.

Is that what Gianni Vio advocates?

You can pick a team that is harder to break down.
Exactly what Hecky should have started doing weeks ago. Grinding out some draws and the odd win here and there and keep us in the top half. Keeps picking a team of soft midgets week in week out and wonders why results dont get any better.

Hecky hecky hecky
OUT OUT OUT

Imagine having a strong specimen of a player, a player who is young, one who I watched boss a match at Ashton gate this season....Vieira...

I’m just....I don’t know how / why he isn’t partnering Forshaw.

We could lose him in the close season I feel.

That is exactly what he has done, but those tactics are not enough to stay in top half.

100% disagree. He has not changed formation/tactics/players to make us harder to beat. We have looked easier to beat under Hecky than TC.
We have not ground out draw - he has played to get wins like the very attacking line up at Reading. I am talking George Graham type tactics. Stifle the opposition with big strong players. To a degree he is limited by the squad but he could have gone 5 at the back or 3 or even 4 central midfielders and dropped players like Saiz/Alioski/Pablo/OKane who are soft in the tackle or get pushed off the ball.

Hecky has a 1-3-4 record. In 8 games we have conceded SIXTEEN goals. That is not grinding out results.

I am talking of Hecky maybe having a record of 2-4-2 or 2-5-1 since taking over. Instead of 6 points he would have had 10 or 11.

That would have kept us 11th place in the table. At the moment under his non-grinding out tactics we are slipping towards 16th

It’s clear you didn’t read what I wrote.

What I’m saying is that getting those draws and a win is exactly what he has done, it’s an improvement, albeit slight on previous run of matches but it is not enough to stay top half as we have seen.

No problem. I read that you thought he had changed the style to grind out his results.

In my experience as a coach, the way a team defends is probably the thing you can influence the most.

It's difficult to make players creative, or to enable them to work on strategies to break down stubborn opponents. But defending is all about technique, teamwork, structure, discipline and communication.
