Squid fishing

Squid fishing is the latest big thing to hit sea fishing. Anyone on here tried it? I'm after my first squid. The season has just started and lasts 5-6 weeks.

I keep threatening to have a sea fishing session. I enjoy eating squid so would definitely give it a go. Would hire the equipment and salt water wrecks your stuff.

Yes, suggest you take a rowing boat into the mid Atlantic at mudnight to get the best chance of a catch.

Thanks for the advice. A lot on here would like me to do that. But I think I'll stick to the ones you can catch from the beach, harbours, piers and inshore boats.

Carp rod would do for squid. Just need a squid jig.

Well I never! Never thought you could catch squid from the beach? Thought they were relatively deep water?

Unless you are fishing in Chesapeake bay, good luck finding fresh water squid.

All ocean animals I believe.

I caught one once. The skipper of the boat I hired, explained that they can escape through any small hole. So we filled a bucket with sea water.. cracked a hole in the bottom and watched as the thing changed colour constantly and eventually squeezed its whole body through the small hole. Fascinating stuff to watch.
