Dirk McGurk

I was, am, and will always be a huge fan of Dirk Kuyt. Certain rivals always derided him (because they're brainless, petty idiots) but he was the first name on the team sheet in numerous critical Dutch matches setting up victories in massive tournaments, held his own and excelled against the best sides in the CL, scored a hattrick against United (giggle), and won a last match title in his homeland with another hattrick at an age where he had no business even playing let alone being Motm.

We don't even need to mention what an amazing humanitarian and philanthropist he is/was.

Dirk, you're facking brilliant.

F***off haters, you were proven wrong five times over.

Lolz, we and Dirk win the argument.

5 what?

Dirk was a great worker and really effective in what he did.

but he was neither pretty to look at nor pretty to watch playing football.

Certainly deserved his legend status last weekend

Like many its a crying shame all he had to show for his time at LFC is one league cup medal.

Dirk Kuyt's career can be summed up in one statement.

A willing runner.

Has he retired?

Absolutely hated that guy - as a player. Seemed a decent bloke otherwise.

Always a guaranteed 9/10 when he played against us.

Absolutely loved Kuyt when he played for us, brilliant player in his own way.

His hat trick against United will go down in Anfield folklore too.

Kuyt was a very good servant to the club and was a good player in an era where we weren't that great.

Can't take anything away from him he always gave his all and did pop up with the odd crucial goal, however a Kuyt in his prime get in the team over any of our current 3 now? Probably not, but would be a great person to step in and do a job!

Awww, love a tribute thread!

Dirk was genuinely one of my favourite players at Liverpool, he always always always delivered in tough games. I know people remember him for his running but I loved how unphased he was, always playing well in important games. I mean, he scored for Liverpool in the '07 Champions League Final - love him since that.

Used to love pointing out to United fans that Kuyt was outscoring Rooney, haha.

He was a lot more than a willing runner.

He was a very clever footballer with excellent movement and tactical nous. Massive strength of character and a leader.

just a quick note

Kuyt played RW in a 4231. not in a 433 so unfair to compare him to any of the front 3 we have. Yes he was signed as a striker form holland but never played there unless we were short of numbers

for 5 of the 6 years he was at anfield he got double figures in goals form RW, the other season was 5 goals his last. and our low ebb TBH.

If you look at that is 10-15 goals every year plus however many assists to its more than just the odd goal too.

I agree with rouge. he was slow but he never stopped moving, very smart to make up for his other lackings.

touch poor, no pace but knew where to be and when and was a decent goal scorer

Most coaches knew his work ethic and exploited it to make up for the other areas that were lacking in the team. That meant he got less goals. But he still bagged a fair few and worked his socks off.

Nothing to dislike and in fact I can’t think of many better players for the club in recent times.

Loved Kuyt, to sum him up..."big game player"; he just was, always got a goal Vs Utd too
