Chelsea finished as a force?

I think so.

Their signings since winning the title aren’t of a team that wants to stay competing at the top.

Can’t see Courtois and Hazard sticking around now.

I think last season may have been there last hurrah.

United's Expected Points is 14 less than they have.

The only team that is close to that is Burnley, which is pretty fitting

I bet Spurs fans are excited about the possibility of lifting the Second Place in the Expected Points League Trophy once again.

Here's what Expected Points gets you at the end of the season:

0.

Of course it has no effect on the points you have.

It is an indicator of whether a side has been fortunate or unfortunate though

Ours and Liverpool's is pretty much spot on.

City's is about 9 less than they have - suggesting they are still a 90+ side, but 100+ would probably flatter them.

Palace have many less than they are expected to, which is fitting.

Points on the table > expected points

We were expected to put in a better performance against Sevilla than we did. We were expected to get 6 points from Huddersfield this season. I never expected to be living in China this long.

Yes, of course points>expected points

Looking at next season, I would expect Palace to do much better and Burnley to do worse. Their expected points this season would suggest so too.

While it is not an exact science, it indicates United have probably punched above their weight this season.

Expected points and expected goals is not just a prediction of how a match should end by the way.

Put simply:

Every chance a side gets in a game is given a value, based on empirical data, on how likely it is it would be a goal.

1.0 being a guaranteed goal
0.0 being no chance of a goal

Lets say 3/4 penalties are scored. A penalty would have a value of 0.75.

A long range effort with a 1-in-100 chance of going in would get a value of 0.01

After a game is played, a teams chances are valued, and added up.

United 2-0 Swansea

XG was:
United 2.07
Swansea 0.16

Spot on

Chelsea 1-3 Spurs
XG
Chelsea 1.25
Spurs 1.30

That would suggest 1-1 would have been a fair result

How do you see it all panning out?

The irony just appealed to me. An article goes up after we lose at home Spurs for the first time in 28 years and a Man U fan is writing our obituary and 6 weeks later we're lifting one of the 4 main trophies on offer and beating them in the final without breaking a sweat.

In all seriousness It'll all work out. It always does. Chelsea is a major employer in the Fulham area and the government isn't gna upset the existing eco system to spite it's face. They're just reminding Abramovich that they run the show and not him or Putin, and why not it won't hurt.
