Driving Licence stuff

Hi all,

I got more points on my licence this morning, 6 points and £200 fine for texting whilst i was sat in traffic.. I am not happy obviously and I wanted to ask the question.

Because of the repercussions of this my insurance is going to be double next year on renewal and I now need to be absolutely squeeky clean for 3/4 years which means no phone (obviously) and no speeding which are the 2 things i usually do. Also I have to constantly check my tyres etc. I literally cannot do anything wrong.

Which makes me ask the question, Has it got to a point with the big fine and the maximum 12 points that it's closer to being better to actually hitting someone?

Now hear me out, If you hit someone whilst driving its going to play on you emotionally for the rest of your life depending on how bad it is. But look at the general law, If I hack into your account and steal all your money and identity I am likely to get a longer jail sentence than what I would have done if I murdered you?

Views? and has anyone on here got 12 points?

Given how much people are glued to their phones these days, it was always gna be inevitable that people start using their phones whilst driving. We're not even talking about picking up the phone to change the song. I'm talking actual usage of the phone as in texting, scrolling through social media, making snapchat videos. It sounds easy though to just say put your phone down when you get in the car but it's a habit of a lifetime now for people to always have your phone in your hand. I'd welcome for the car manufacturers and phone companies to come up with technology that disables the phone and phone usage once inside the car and that only phonecalls can be taken using the car's Bluetooth system. No compromises.

Just on the two hands on the wheel thing. I'm sure no male on here drives with two hands. Females probably do but the majority of guys can drive with one hand safely especially if your car is an automatic.

Whoever does it Pete....it's as selfish as drink driving.
If you are caught with a phone whilst driving it should be a one year ban straight off the bat.

What if your hand eye coordination is off the charts, your driving and anticipation is great and you've never even been near having an accident?

Not that I do it but I'd take myself texting while driving over 90% of the driving population without their phones. Some people are just terrible drivers.

DUI is the worst thing for me.

You would be a formula 1 racing driver or a Moto GP rider. I was going to say pilot or surgeon too but some of them are really had drivers, come to think of it it isn't unknown for motorbike racers not to Have a driving license.

I drive cars, motorbikes and hgvs and I despair at the amount of mobile use I still see, selfish useless bastewards.

Just think if youd been smart enough to use that fine money on handsfree for the car you can talk text and drive with no points on your licence and cheap insurance....you are your own worst enemy. Beware of natural selection whilst behind the wheel.
