What changes are needed?

What I mean is, how drastic do you think the club need to go?

Let’s face it, it’s unlikely that Roman will be sacking his trusted board.

But there are IMO some realistic changes the club can make and it doesn’t need to be bankrolled.

For me an obvious change in direction (not necessary to announce it) and something in place where the Manager/Head Coach doesn’t pay the price because he has not delivered instant success.

The people who shoot me down with the argument of

“Roman way of doing it has brought us success so why change?"

Conveniently ignore that the success coincided with us having the best spine in our history with a squad that consisted of leaders all over the park.

I don’t wanna point out the obvious but it seems some people need reminding………..This is no longer the case.

We want to see our younger players utilised? We don’t want people constantly saying what fools we were (usually our own fans) for letting a player go? The only way imo this can happen is if the Manager has some sort of reassurances.

I still don’t think we need to go out and break the bank to get back in to next season’s top 4. I just think we need to free up a Chelsea Head Coach to feel safe to take some risks.

Agreed Flash, although what you're suggesting is what we all know, it's only the Chelsea board that can't see it.

sorry that wasn't meant to be directed at you.

I just think the only way we can take a "short term pain/long term gain" approach is if the pressure of instant success is removed.

Oh don’t worry, didn’t think it was aimed at me!

I agree with you, but it’s a long standing problem that looks unlikely to change. Made even worse by the fact that our transfers have been shocking, quick fix solutions have been really poor

We have been stuck in defensive mindset for so long that we don't believe we can win a game being offensive. So for me we

Need a purely attack minded manager given at least 5 years in the beginning and say let it rip

But it would be on the basis if we're not going to bankroll, no pressure for instant success.

We need a director of Sport in the Luis Campos mould, We also need the board, DoF and head coach to be on the same page; Whether is bringing through youth and tightening the purse strings then so be it.

I also feel we need a different style of football, We've went for short-term pragmatic coaches for too long.

I do agree with the OP in that it won't necessarily take a lot to change us back into serious challengers. We need to strengthen 2 main positions though - centre back, where neither Christensen nor Cahill are good enough (Christensen may be eventually), and centre midfield where neither Fabregas nor Bakayoko are good enough. We need two major players for those positions though - players who are able to bring real strength and leadership to the team.
We can certainly tweak the team in other areas where needed, but those 2 positions are the backbone of the side.

Yes LSTD wishing great success for a club I support is so shocking and infuriating for amazing fans like you and I am one of those fans who are badly affecting Chelsea FC.
