Leeds Utd v Aston Villa Matchday Thread

According to what I've read on t'internet the result of this game is a foregone conclusion .........................weeeee're doooooomed
Not a ball been kicked yet and we've been written off , understandable I suppose, but i'm not giving up hope that the lads can start playing as a Team and repay the Travelling Faithful with a decent performance.

Venue .. Villa Park .. Date 13th April .. Kick Off .. 19:45hrs

Team News
Leeds United
Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper, Laurens De Bock, Adam Forshaw, Eunan O'Kane, Matthew Pennington, Tyler Roberts and Conor Shaughnessy are all expected to miss the match.
Pontus Jansson is also out due to concussion after he was substituted in the second half of Tuesday's 3-1 defeat at Preston.

Aston Villa
Icelandic International Birkir Bjarnason should be back in the side, Alan Hutton is closing in on a comeback after a hamstring problem but the match comes too soon for him while John Terry and Axel Tuanzebe also remain sidelined.

Opta stats
Villa are unbeaten in their last three home league matches against Leeds (W1 D2) since losing 1-0 in April 2002, with Mark Viduka scoring for Leeds.
Leeds have lost just once in their last 10 league meetings with Villa (W4 D5), a 2-0 defeat in the Premier League in February 2004.
Steve Bruce has never lost a home match against Leeds as a manager (W5 D2), facing a different manager each time (Venables, Gray, Blackwell, Wise, Warnock, Evans and Monk).
Against the current Championship top six, Leeds have collected just three points from 11 games (W0 D3 L8), although one of those points was in the reverse fixture with Aston Villa.
Villa have won 13 home league games this season, their best tally in a season since 1992-93 (also 13) - they haven't won 14 since the 1983-84 campaign.
Paul Heckingbottom has won just three of his last 27 Championship matches (D9 L15), losing six of his first 12 as Leeds boss (W2 D4).

There it is then, everything points to a comfortable win for Steve Bruces side, 5 points behind 2nd place and a win against us cements their playoff place, so the pressures on Villa
Time for another daft prediction I think 0-2 Leeds Win, with Alioski and Viera scoring optimism

Tactics are just so poor from Heckingbottom. Pablo left wing in a 442 against a much faster full back an example of that. We are a poor side but he doesn't set them up to get a result.

He should be giving them credit for their efforts, BPF, Pearce and O'Connor were excellent tonight

Ok. Watched it.

This side needs

A quality left back
Someone decent to partner Jansson
A partner for Foreshaw
A decent and proven striker.

That’s four players - but they have to be quality.

I would like a keeper, I'd stick with Pearce at left-back, agree we need an enforcer with Forshaw but would accept Saiz and Forshaw in the middle with two good wide men, Alioski & Dallas possibly (I know I'll get stick for saying that....) and two strikers. Jansson can go for me, I think his head has gone already.

I remember Eddie Gray's young guns; Lukic, Sheridan, Irwin, Sellars, Wright....

At the moment confidence is shot. Let’s get three or four in. Send a few out on loan and make sure we have a manager who understands LUFC.

I'd have Pearce playing rest of the season if fit.

Patience. At least you're playing younger players. Building for the future.

The average age of the players we put out was 29. Would have been higher if we hadn't played Johnstone and Onomah. We have some cracking youngsters who don't even make the bench.
