The GSE years revisited

Gently touching on the overtly premature wrist slashing topic.

Your team by some cruel twist of fate is denied a place in the Premiership conceding in the last minute of injury time at Wembley to a blatantly offside goal by Patrick Bamford.

As a result you run into a few financial issues. You sell your assets namely Keogh, Vydra and Carson for a combined total 19.67543 million pounds sterling. This sadly mostly goes towards balancing the books possibly freeing you up for a loan and maybe one up and coming player from the lower leagues.

You have a decent enough squad but aging a bit around the edges, looking at your academy you have to decide who gets a go next year from the following list of contenders and where do they fit into the larger scheme of things:

U 23

Ravas GK
Yates GK
Stabana
Wassall
Bateman
Karic
Babos
Gordon
Walker
McAllister
Zanzala
Jakobsen
Taylor
Barnes
Cover
Timmi-Max
Guy
MacDonald
Vernam

U 18

Fryatt GK
French GK
Bogle
Carter-Thompson
Thomas, Cain
Mbuti
Rashid
Mills
Thorne
Buchanan
Bird
Haywood
Brown
Wise
Minkley
Jibodu
Mitchell-Lawson
Cresswell
Knight
Davie
Whittaker
Dixon

That Knight/Elsnik CM partnership really is the way to go, Wellies. Can't sleep for thinking about it. Fernandinho & De Bruyne beware !

I can't either, might have to put pen to paper about it's potential.

Right then, you can't make omelettes without breaking eggs, so things are going to have to change.

Let's go 3-5-2 and shift some players:

__________________Carson___________________
_____Wisdom______Davies_________Keogh______
_Weimann_________Huddlestone_______Anya?___
___________Bryson______Palmer(Loan)_________
__________Nugent/Martin____Vydra/Lawrence____

Subs:
Mitchell
Pearce
Baird
Olsson
Ledley

Sell/ Release:
Shackell
Forsyth
Johnson
Jerome
Anyone else I've forgotten

Bring in:
Box-to-box midfielder
Striker

Little income from sales, but reduced wages. A more expansive game, played by younger players. No complacency to be allowed under any circumstances or it will be met with instant dropping and enforced training with the kids teams. No mercy!

You forgot to put Weimann on the give away list Fridge.

My u20 side, currently top of our league, wouldn't be a bad shout

Sorry to go off topic but am i the only one scratching my head at Hanson signing a new deal?

Can't get in to the starting line up even when it players are under performing, hasn't really made the step up after breaking through and certainly not good enough if by some miracle we got promoted. I can't even tell you what his best position is.

A possible sign of things to come i fear.

I'm quite surprised by it but I hope he surpasses my expectations. I always think it is hard to judge a player completely unless he has had a decent run of consecutive appearances in a team, particularly a young player. I have seen plenty of young players who didn't look up to much initially but who have developed.

Just as a comparison in terms of experience, not as a type of player, Hanson is younger now and has played fewer first team games that when Jesse Lingard came to Derby on loan. Lingard impressed nobody at Derby, myself included, and I don't think any of us would have foreseen that he would go on to perform as well as he has for club and country. Obviously I don't believe Hanson will do the same but it surely shows that forming an opinion based on limited appearances can turn out to be completely wrong.

I totally agree with what Vidal has thought and written. I was about to pen something similar. One of the things we can't assess so easily is character - whilst GR can.

I wish Hanson well.

I'd like to see Hanson given a chance starting on Saturday. I don't think he will though, not old enough.
