Now hear me out
Only 10 days ago, a number of Tottenham fans were bizarrely wetting their pants at the prospect of their fierce London rivals Chelsea finishing above us after we drew in the Merseyside derby after playing our second string.
I thought it was fairly odd at the time given the rivalry which made me remember it and in turn prompted this article.
So now I ask, is there a possibility they could yet still finish above Spurs?
Here's some reasons why it may yet happen:
- Chelsea had a morale boosting victory coming back from the dead against Southampton. In contrast to Spurs who have first been utterly dominated at home by Manchester City (3-1 was flattering) and now dropped points at lowly Brighton ( a fixture we won 5-1 I may add). They have a very tough fixture at Wembley to come on Saturday.
- Spurs' squad is looking tired after a long season, a common theme that has affected them in past seasons at this stage.
- Spurs' ability to bottle it at this stage of the season, as we have seen in recent years, should never be underestimated.
- Harry Kane's golden boot obsession. I think in the remaining games, it is not impossible Kane's eagerness to get himself the personal accolade of the golden boot could affect the team's overall performances. Tonight we saw him take a free kick off Eriksen and fluff it, slipping over in the process. May he be selfish in certain situations where a teammate may be better placed to score?
If Chelsea win on Thursday, the gap will be down to 5 points. Whilst Spurs' remaining fixtures look fairly easy on paper, who knows what may happen from now until the end of the season? Wouldn't Leicester and Vardy just love to be party poopers on the final day against Tottenham once again?
Feel free to suggest your own reasons as to why there is still yet hope for Chelsea.
Let's see what happens
Chelsea to catch Tottenham?

GeniusGreaves I have been to Stamford Bridge on a stadium tour.I am a Chelsea fan but before becoming a Chelsea fan I was basically a Gianfranco Zola fan.I only started watching football regularly in 2004 when I got a cable connection in my country Pakistan. Before that I only used to watch World Cup or Euros.I have been to England many times but only on visits.Aferwards,I lived there for about two years in 2015-2016 and some part of 2017 before leaving the country after studying there on tier 5 visa.I visited Stamford Bridge in 2009 and it was one of the best memories of my entire life.

It's 2004 and of all the clubs you pick, you pick the one at the top of the tree. Go figure

Chelsea were not top in 2004.I already liked them and was particularly attracted to them due to previously watching Zola play occasionally. If I should have supported a top team I should have supported Arsenal as they won Premiership in 2003-2004 season.I became Chelsea fan due to Zola and then watching Jose's entertaining press conferences.Watching Chelsea play scintillating football with Damien Duff and Arjen Robben on the winga was amazing and stuff of dreams.Porto won Champions League in 2003-2004 but I did not have a clue about Jose Mourinho when I watched his press conference and watched him announce he was the special one.It was not Chelsea success but the colourful characters like Zola on pitch and Jose as Chelsea manager which made me a Chelsea fan in the first place.
