Poor Harry Kane

The Football Association has risked upsetting Tottenham Hotspur and Harry Kane with a tweet that was sent out after the club’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United.

Kane suffered a rare off day during Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to United at Wembley, for which he was incredibly mocked by the official FA Cup Twitter account.

Just minutes after United’s win, a tweet was posted from the FA Cup account with the message “What’s in your pocket, Chris" and a video of defender Chris Smalling saying “Harry Kane".

The message was retweeted over 20,000 times and provoked a huge response, much of which was aimed at Tottenham and Kane, who has recently returned from an ankle injury.

Given it is less than two months before the World Cup, in which Kane could potentially captain England and will travel to Russia as the country’s star player, it was a bizarre move to poke fun at the 24 year-old.

Kane has already had to put up with a number of jokes aimed at him, from fellow professionals, England team-mates, ex-players and supporters, over the goal he claimed from Christian Eriksen at Stoke City.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino revealed Kane had been hurt by some of the criticism he had received and this latest tweet is likely to surprise the player and anger his club.

England manager Gareth Southgate, who was at Wembley to watch United’s semi-final win, may also be dismayed to find out the FA Cup account ridiculed Kane. It is particularly ironic, given Southgate has dropped Smalling from his England squad, claiming the 28 year-old is not good enough on the ball for his style of play.

Shouldn't even be playing! He is still not fit from his injury yet he is forcing his way into to the squad just to chase the stupid golden boot!

He is one of our biggest liabilities currently and we would have put up more of a fight against you without him, plus given city a better game and probably come away with a win against Brighton.

That’s a good shout he really didn’t look near himself yesterday was the worst game I’ve seen him play but don’t see all his games.
