Hidden cost of Sanchez

Good article by Adam bate on Martial and Sanchez.

http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11345073/alexis-sanchez8217s-success-coming-at-the-cost-of-losing-anthony-martial

Really interesting seeing the ages de bruyne and salah last played for mourinho and martials age now plus what his agent has recently said about him leaving.

I do think we are showing a lot of short termism. Realistically it will be very hard to catch man city next season. Obvioudly we should try but i think first and foremost we should improve on our midfield options and developing a more consistent attacking style of play. I really dont see why martial/sanchez/lukaku/ lingard cannot play as a fluid front three that constantly interchange positions like Liverpool's front three do. Henry's comments regarding martial and his goals to minutes ratio being the best in the club are stats that speak to himself. He scored in three consecutive games on the bounce, form of his life and got dropped.

Has he been severely hard done by ? Should we not be ensuring we develop a world class player rather than having to buy another one in a few years?

Costa
Started 26 games (finished 20)
Sub App 18 games
Goals 3
Assists 11

Martial
Started 25 (finished 4)
Sub app 25
Goals 12
Assist 14

That's playing for Jose.

You just don't think do you Robb?
---------------------

He will say absolutely anything to protect Jose, not matter how ridiculous it makes him look. His obsession with Jose is bizarre. In the past he has suggested that VC has autism, but I know which one of them I'd put my money on being on the spectrum.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So now you’re trying to make out I’m autistic

Right.

You’ll say anything to protect martial. Maybe you’re autistic

You are the one who wanted Bastian to stay. How embarrassing for you.

---------

I'm not obsessed with martial. That would see me making countless articles about the same person like you tend to do.

And yes I would have kept Bastian. The number of games he has managed and Carrick not being available suggests to me that it wouldn't have been a bad idea.

But as you well know, my main issue with bastian wasn't that he was allowed to leave the club, but the way Jose treated him. Thankfully he did find it within himself to apologise for that.

Have to agree, his legs were gone but the footballer and leader was still there (Just like Scholes when he came back).
Besides even at that is he much less mobile than Fellaini and Matic are?

How has Sanchez been more consistent?? He has been atrocious for us up until recently. The beauty of giving a player a chance to play their way to form eh. I wish Martial had that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just to clarify, consistent in terms of not fading away during matches where Martial seems to only do it in patches

Juve have only 3 players with more than 5 goals this season, and 3 in the top 30 Serie A scorers.

Higuain, Dybala and Khedira
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Then by your logic that would state that those guys would take up a lot of the goals scored wouldn’t they?

Just going by your logic

Anyway, the proof will be in the pudding. If Juventus do sign Martial we shall see if he plays as much as he likes. I doubt he will
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You said they are well shared about you idiot.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And then it turned out I was wrong

And then you provided stats that showed evidence that supported the claim that of course Costa had worse stats than Martial - he’s playing in a side which gets its main outlet from the strikers

So we’re both wrong - but ultimately the stats point to a reason why the stats provided were irrelevant. Because we rely more on martial for goals and assists than Juve do with Costa
----------------------------------------------------------------------
FFS Robb we barely rely on Martial for goals and assists as he never fecking plays!!! Stop digging and take your Wahlesque love for Jose somewhere else!!!

No he isn't any less mobile - certainly not than Fellaini. With a legend like Bastian in behind him, barking orders, Pogba might even have learnt a bit of defensive discipline?

If you watch Messi he'll be the exact same. Only comes alive in the top third of the pitch and when Barca have possesion.

When your midfield is incapable of dominating games and controlling the tempo of course the attacking players will be marginalised at times.

Bastian was another in a long line of wasted opportunities for United.
The main one being we signed him too late. His peak years had clearly passed.
And the warning signs were there from the off.
He was being gradually fazed out of Pep's Bayern Munich first 11 ,question marks about his desire and, the big one, all coinciding with a now consistently poor injury record.

Now, I can understand why LVG made a move for him. Managers, past and present for us, have usually moved for players who they know will fit into their philosophy.
And if United/LVG could get him fit and raring to go you have a classy midfielder on your hands with vast experience.
But we rarely saw it. And when he did feature he looked abit on the ol'chubby side, truth to told.

Jose handling of the situation wasn't good though.
Though United giving Bastian the big contract in the first place needed questioning.

I totally get why LVG went for Bastian, he’s a player he’s knows very well and believes he understands his philosophy which was key, he was also relatively cheap. Unfortunately we got him past his best with too many injuries, it happens but the risk wasn’t that great so in the grand schemes it mattered little. Jose could have done things better but I still don’t think he could have offered much, like Genius said he often looked like a bit of a chubster.

The one thing Bastien offered was experience. You could see him telling others where to play a pass and offering leadership to the younger players.

As a footballer, he wasn't near his best though.

I think Martial is a great talent and really hope he stays but he could learn so much from Sanchez performance on Saturday.

Not the goal or the role in the 2nd goal as we know he is capable of that but the work rate.

As well as producing quality Sanchez ran his heart out as well.

With Martial if things aren’t going well you just feel he just accepts things aren’t going my way today.
