Just glad that liability Shelvey isn't going. He's amazing at passing yet has 3 assists...

Just suggests everything at Newcastle goes through him rather then being any good.

Or it suggests that the finishing is shocking; you can't get an assist if the player you are passing it to doesn't score, and it's not always down to the quality of the ball.

Pirlo could pass the ball to me and I wouldn't score against most teams. That's because I've got two left feet and no sense of coordination.

I agree especially with your second point. I also don't know what Shelvey's like as a person; another aspect to the squad conundrum is harmony and people getting along.

The harmony issue is a big one. The players need to all get along and enjoy being in a World Cup environment, something I don't believe they've had for a while. I actually think characters like Gazza helped with this when he was around, and we don't have anyone like that now.

Every squad I've seen so far has weaknesses in some positions.
