Thats modern footy fans for you!

I remember loads writing Firmino off after 5 mins

I suppose we've all judged one player or other a bit too hastily at some point, but yeah.

The pieces I referred above reveal a man who's fiercely passionate about his club and homeland though. Homesickness (which they call 'morriña' are very much a part of the Galician national identity, so it's not entirely unlikely that it did play an important part in his difficulty to adapt to life elsewhere.

Aspas barely got a chance here under rodgers.

A transfer commitee signing no doubt, fits the bill and rodgers always had issue with the players forced on him..

You might be right, but I also got the impression a lot of the Liverpool on here fans ridiculed him and wrote him off pretty quickly.

He did nevertheless seem to have difficulty adapting, and also struggled (and mostly failed) to nail down a starting place at Sevilla, despite demonstrating impressive form in the Spanish cup.

In fairness though, he might just be one of those players who doesn't travel well.

Playing for Celta clearly adds another dimension to his game. He gives 110% every time, and it shows.

Sid Lowe's written a few good pieces in The Guardian over the years about Aspas, Celta Vigo and the Galician derby. Worth a read for die-hard footy fans.

I recall Aspas having a really good pre-season and plenty on here thinking we might have got ourselves a bargain.

Trouble is he just couldn’t make the first team, for very good reasons at the time, and was making very limited contributions from the bench. He looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

At 30 you’d have thought his chances of another big move are limited. Although there would be a certain symmetry to Salah tearing it up for us and Aspas doing likewise for Chelsea...

I coldn't see Aspas moving, for the reasons I stated just before your post.

Aspas was always a backup until Suarez came back from ban. He had those games and did okay but then Suarez was on fire and Sterling started to blossom.

We should have probably kept him after selling Suarez but shipped him as quick as possible after that "corner".

Morata

This is the price you pay when you spend an entire season falling over all the time as opposed to trying to play the game.

Amazed that Juve want him back. I'll drive him there. Carry him all the way by piggyback if necessary.

Superb you are too ungrateful as Morata was good before his injury against Manchester City

Surprised Morata didn't make it. He had a poor season but it was his first season in the PL. I would still expect him to perform well for Spain.
