Willian in.. Mata out?

I know people seem to think signing Willian would mean the end for martial but why? We could possibly have for

RW- Willian/Lingard
LW- Sanchez/Martial
ST- Lukaku/Rashford

There's a lot of competitions so having 2 options per position isn't unrealistic? Like everyone else I'm hoping martial stays and would rather we sold Sanchez if anything but we all know it won't happen, so doesn't anybody think the above is possible?

That would have a blend of ages so and experience/potential? Losing martial really would be something we'd regret.

Have you timed most pros to confirm that?

I'm sure there's studies and such that show that most players can play at the highest level until 33. And the very best play until 35-36. Would be in line with most pros of my generation.

If you don't accept that agrument and use my own argument against me of timing players, that backs up my point that the notion of mata slowing down(a player who doesn't rely on pace)is not a factor.

So, you have no idea.

Where as I have watched Mata get slower over the course of the last few seasons.

As I have watched pros of my club for 20 years worth of going to matches. you just seem to dislike mata.

Look at robben, ronaldo and others. Have not slowed down despite ageing. I would wager Ronaldo will start to now, but how old is he? 33-34?

Every human will be slightly different but I think in general you physically peak at around your late 20s and then with other factors such as injuries you begin to decline. I’m sure most athletic sprint records will have been made by those in their mid/late 20s, looking at Bolt his PBS were in 2009 when he was 23/24.

Mata has never been the most physical or fast of players and hasn’t needed to rely on it either so his deterioration physically will be less noticeable but I’m guessing he will still have declined over the past few years.

Ronaldo doesn’t run anywhere near as much as he used to. His games has evolved a lot in recent years where he has learnt to conserve energy and make great movement into space based on a great understanding of his markers. There will always be anomalies of athletes who haven’t declined much as they’ve got into their mid/late 30s but the vast majority will do.

You are, as so often, incorrect. Mata is one of my favorite players. Sadly he has got slower and isn't as effective as he used to be.

I beg to differ.

Utd won't sell Martial to another English club but fancy signing Willian?

Unfortunatley i agree, Mata is in the process of falling off the cliff. He has a brilliant mind. Lovely player to watch on his day... but if his pace has gone. He’s done.
Maybe hes just a 45 min player now.. super sub.
But thats beneath a player like him... should go to another team that are desperate for quality and willing to play him often..... say Arsenal or Everton.
