Football is all about winning. No one cares who the opposition were.

In what way does it benefit Celtic?
The only thing that benefits Celtic is having the right manager in place.

That competitive quality opposition will set you up for better performances in europe. It doesn't necessarily need to be Rangers. But is it coincidince that the two full decades where scotland had no european finalists are the current one and the 90s. Two decades where one side was so far on top that it was largely won before it started

Since 98 we have had two teams in European finals and even aberdeen got out their group. A strong rangers can benefit our seeding but thats about it. The extra competition is more of a hindrance as we cant rest players.

That period was undoutedly a strong time in recent scottish football but the european success wasn't immediate and partly to do with qualification rounds and seeding. It was 2001-02 before Rangers even managed to last beyond christmas. After that it was quite regular for a while which was coincidentally when celtic were quite good too. Hearts and Aberdeen having strong group showings also shows the overall league was in better shape than it is now
Our Champions are now facing just about every qualifying round rather than straight in. We're down to 1 champions league place and have been for ages and the Europa League group is difficult for anyone to make it to.
