The Class Of 92

I finally got round to watching the documentary last night, Macca would have been proud of my lateness on it.

There are many take ways to be gleaned from it.

1. Practice and dedication. All of them spoke about it and the sacrifices they had to make to reach the top. If one of them was sat in the canteen and they saw the others still out there practicing then they knew they should still be out there.

2. Scholsey's late tackles and hitting people on the back of the head for fun. As I have often said on here, a lot of his late tackles were meant. It was his way of saying 'don't think you will get away with kicking me'

3. The circling round the wagon mentality. Something clearly missing from today's United. The bond these guys had with one another and going through their initiation rituals reminded me very much of my own life in the Military.

4. The difference a manager who understands the need for a great youth policy makes and how the legend of Sir Matt was ever present with this group of youngsters.

I do not believe we will ever see the like of what they achieved as a group again.

i think there is a sort of pc niceness to the likes of rashford, mctominay, pogba or lingard that will be a problem for us. they are all just too nice, you would be happy for them to be dating your daughter.

Not if your daughter is a child you wouldn't.

Ah yes, forgot about that side. Funny that LVG introduced most of Barcas famous crop to the first team as well.

Didn't Iniesta recently say LVG had the biggest influence on his career?

A great bit in there about Scholsey being put in the clothes dryer as part of the initiation process.

And another great bit about Robbo nailing someone in an A Team game for raking his studs down one of the players shins.

Even as an Arsenal fan who truly hated that group of players during their United playing days I absolutely love the film.

You can't watch it and not crack up at the personalities and quirks while hugely admiring their desire, commitment and will to win.

I think you’ll find it’s quite possible

Interesting that it was the Class of '92 who put a stop to the "beasting" rituals that appeared to toughen them up as players and as men, I suppose they wouldn't get away with it now but the United dressing room in the early-to-mid 90s seemed like a bear pit.

Good Article VC. Unrelated to the class of 92, some interesting comments about LVG. It was one thing I really admired about him. He had a real passion for bringing youth through and in the context of MU52s article he "got us" as a club.

Easy with hindsight but he felt like he was the right manager at the wrong time. A lot of us could see what he was doing but felt he didn't have the correct players or the players just didn't get it. Of course partly his own fault. It's possible if we had him straight after Sir Alex, we would have been in the perfect position after his 3 years
