Manager's role

Okay, I haven't posted for a while but I have read many things here over the last few months and I would like to offer my views. This year has been a triumph for progressive managers. Wenger and Conte have missed out on Champions League - and serves them right for the football they have played. Mourinho has more than he deserves - Champions League qualification - but for the truly awful, destructive football he plays he can't complain (except he does ... as always).

So my observation is to do with Klopp and Guardiola and Salah and De Bruyne. Why are people so surprised?

De Bruyne has long been lauded as the most talented player to come out of Europe for a generation. All the scouts have been saying it since Chelsea were lucky enough to sign him. The fact that Chelsea has not had one decent coach (apart from Ancelotti) who let the players play to their potential meant that he was never going to flourish at Chelsea. We all knew he would once he was playing under a manager who valued his attacking qualities - Mourinho was never going to be that man.

Then Salah. Always fabulous for Basel. Fabulous for Fiorentina. Sublime for Roma (both in ultra defensive leagues) Was he ever going to be anything but a success under Klopp? A manager who allows his creative players the freedom to express themselves?

Both the individuals - Salah and De Bruyne, as well as the clubs - profiting from a player - coach relationship that is mutually beneficial. You don't buy champagne and pretend it's Lambrusco - unless you are Mourinho or Conte or of that ilk (which I fear Sarri will be too).

Chelsea have (and have had) an array of attacking talent - the envy of many clubs - just look at the teams lining up for Hazard and Willian. However, we appoint strict, boring, disciplinarian coaches. Guardiola and Klopp make their players better. Who here thinks they've seen the best of Hazard? We still haven't as he's never been given the freedom and encouragement he would be under Klopp or Guardiola. Why does Fabregas play as a defensive shield when he should play behind the strikers? Why have half of Pedro's appearances been as wing-back?

Chelsea have to appoint a progressive coach if they are to get anywhere.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Sarri a gung-ho manager even to Napoli's detriment at times, think you have wrongly pigeon holed him.

Are you taking about his teams at the back?

32, 39 and 29 are his numbers in terms of goal concession at Napoli. Not Jose of the 00's or Simeone numbers, but very respectable considering how attacking based he is.

The OP was putting Sarri in with Conte and Mourinho as negative managers, my point was it is quite the opposite.

I'm not sure Sarri is the answer for us. We need a progressive manager - someone who players will love playing under. That's more my point of view.

Apart from Ancelotti - I have a problem with Italian managers. I hope I am wrong.

As a Chelsea fan it's weird that you do seeing as the vast majority of our trophies in the last 20 years have been won under Italian managers, especially if you exclude Mourinho's trophies won here.

Either way your perception of Sarri seems to be way off.
