Supporting the British Team?

So who are you going to support on Saturday? After a lot of soul searching, I've got to go with Liverpool.

Reasons for:

They can play exciting football.
Klopp is quite likeable (mostly).
They beat us fair and square (ok they mugged us (again!) and there were a few dodgy offside calls, and reffing decisions, but that's not their fault).
I quite like the city, and the people.
I fecking hate Madrid and especially Ronaldo and they have played turgid football this year.
It will drive the Rags batschit crazy.

Reasons against:

If they win it we'll never hear the end of it.

I don’t have an issue wanting other English clubs in Europe winning apart from the red shiiit.

We’ve won enough European trophies, why should we begrudge others doing the same.

I’ve never supported a British team in a European final - apart from United when they played Chelsea in 2008 - but I hate Real Madrid as much as I hate Chelsea and Arsenal. Also I simply cannot have Ronaldo with more CL wins and Ballon d’ors than Messi, so Liverpool win.

Off topic, but Ronaldo having more Ballon d'Ors than Messi would just be a statistical quirk. Nothing to get too worked up about. Anyone who's witnessed this era will know who the greatest player of this generation is.

To cite another couple of examples of contemporaries, and even if the Ballon d'Or suggests otherwise, I don't think anyone who witnessed Stoichkov or Shevchenko play and isn't Bulgarian or Ukrainian would consider them greater footballers than Michael Laudrup or Thierry Henry.

Past greats like Pelé or Maradona weren't even eligible for the award, but that hasn't lessened their stature or standing in the eyes of football fans.

United fans seem convinced that Real will beat us and are not entertaining any other scenario.

Think there's a few United fans actually that think you will win.

As a Spaniard, I always back the Spanish sides in Europe, even if it's Barça. Might be different if Barça were closing in on Madrid's haul of CL trophies, but they're still miles off.

In the end, it'll not only be viewed as a success for the club in question, but also for the country/league it hails from, and I really don't have any problem with putting up with a bit of banter.

Normally would want the English team to win but John Bishop would be unbearable.

Tough call. I think Liverpool will win, but who to support. Don't like Real, although I used to, I like Liverpool as a city and the people so should support them. But then I think of GB and one or two more.....
.
Anyway its hot here, moules frites to come, and may the best team win.
