Stephan Lichtsteiner

Arsenal are in talks to sign Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free when his contract at Juventus expires this summer, with the right-back among Unai Emery’s targets. The 34-year-old, who is expected to captain Switzerland at the World Cup in Russia, could become the Arsenal head coach’s first signing.

“I’m playing in one of the biggest clubs in Europe and there’s always competition for places," Lichtsteiner told Mediaset after making his 300th appearance against Bologna this month. “But my future is going to be away from Turin. At the end of the season I’m leaving. I’ll play abroad next year but I’ve not signed anything yet.

Bellerin will be moved forward I guess.

One of my least favourite players in world football.

Horrific diver, injury feigner and general wind up merchant who has never committed a foul in his life going by how he reacts when one is given against him.

Certainly a departure from the sort of softies Arsenal have tended to buy in the last 15 years.

You`d be better off with Glen Johnson

Did Glen Johnson also come on and destroy Spurs this season?

£50m budget starting to look genuine.

Part of me wants to say, "Are you Wenger in disguise?", with Emery targeting a has-been freebie. Part of me wonders if this is actually a smart move since fast, super-fit players tend to retain that quality quite well into late playing age.

I do think to endear himself to us Emery should have picked more of a marquee for his first signing.
