Zidane's goal

I wouldn't like to say one is superior to the other at this point. I'm not even sure Bale's was harder to do, since Zidane used his weaker foot and the ball took a while to drop. Plus we've now seen 2 overhead kick goals in 2 recent finals, as well as Ronaldo's in the earlier rounds.

I think it does Bale's a disservice to just call it an overhead kick.
The height of the ball, the distance, the angle from cross to strike, his body position.
Absolutely no right to hit that like he did

Sheringham's in 99 was superior to both.

Saw Zidane's again recently and was struck by the height from which the ball dropped to him - that would make it really hard to control. It was probably a more beautiful goal in terms of pure footballing technique. But Bale's was outrageous for the athleticism and audacity. It was the kind of goal that might find its way into a film about football, and we'd all laugh about how unrealistic it was. Incredible.

Bale goal was a lot better than the Zidane one. Hard to believe really he managed to pull it off due to speed and height of the ball and Bale adjusted in the air and made contact at the right moment flying high into the net with so much power.

I think all 3 goals would have been prevented if Liverpool had a half decent keeper though. Even that great Bale goal the keeper just had a poor reaction as it was right next to him.

I still think that Bale's goal was mainly acrobatics. The flight of the ball didn't make it as difficult to control. I know it's ridiculous to say 'all he had to do was make a decent contact' when the ball is behind him and about ten metres above his head. But in terms of ball-foot physics, the timing and technique to volley a dropping ball with Zidane's pace and precision is harder. I agree Bale can be marked up a bit for doing it upside down and in the air though.
