No trophy...

... but so what?

Year in year out grown men use this as an insult, often to Spurs fans, as if it means anything. Especially considering how little impact we actually have on the outcome of a random team that we picked when we were little.

Yet Football is ultimately all about the enjoyment and memories you have of watching it. I much preferred beating Real Madrid and Inter Milan 3-1 than winning the Carling Cup in 08, and I’m sure looking back what you will remember is watching your team put in one of the most impressive pressing performances of all time to beat Man City; or the crazy 5-2 vs Roma when neither team could be bothered to defend.

As football seasons go I am sure there have been few as fun as this one from a Liverpool fan perspective, and from an outside point of view a lot there have been a lot of moments that I have been quite envious of.

The point is, for you this season it should be viewed as a success. Yeah your team (that you had no impact on) didn’t win something that you had no control over, but if it’s fun then that’s all that matters and it’s ridiculously tough to get to a CL final

(P.s TAA really is a great player, I look forward to seeing him on the right of England’s flank for years to come )

liquid, a team develops the it factor. it's not a given.
some day arsenal or even leeds might develop it again.

They also put in the most embarrassing final defeat in footballing history

you sure you were watching the right game?

Can you think of one
----------------------------------------------------------------------
i didn't think this one was embarrassing really. except like arouna said for the goalkeeper.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A couple of salient(look it up) points:

- Goalkeepers are the last line of defense, their mistakes are usually magnified by opponents scoring. Other players have team-mates to cover up for their mistakes, sometimes a goalkeeper.

- The line-up was chosen by Koop, he should take some of the heat. Some Liverpool fans think that they had a better "goalie" the sitting on the bench?

Nice article

Ultimately, each club is different and the triumphs are all relative to the respective teams. I have never experienced the feeling of escaping relegation, but I imagine the feeling would not just be relief but jubilation. Just as being a supporter of Liverpool and Tottenham, might not mean seeing your team lift many trophies but watching their style of football and those standout victories will live in your memories.

Being a Chelsea fan is very different. Honestly, a season without a trophy can feel really forgetful. Carlo's second season, Jose Mourinho's first season back are all examples of seasons I would not really look back to much with much joy. Perhaps a result like the 6-0 victory against Arsenal for Spurs would feel more glorious than it would for a Chelsea fan.

I don't say this to belittle Liverpool or Tottenham, I have respect for their supporters and the football they play. They obviously aim for trophies as well, but comparatively the type of individual performances are more memorable for their supporters. Thinking back to the days before Roman, it was the same for us too. If anything I kind of miss looking back on a game which didn't result in us lifting a trophy with the same kind of fondness.
