Abou Diaby better than me Pogba

When asked to list the players around Europe who are better than him, Pogba said: “There is Iniesta, who is having an amazing career. Then there are the Kroos’, Modric’s of this world, David Silva, De Bruyne, Yaya Toure, even Abou Diaby. Who many forget about.

"He was an exceptional box-to-box player. Sadly he had a lot of injuries. He was someone who when he was at Arsenal he was exceptional. I believe he was better than me in all aspects. We forget but he was exceptional. For France he was great.

"Abou Diaby is a player I watched and respect a lot. I won’t forget him. I learned a lot from him." Pogba said.

That Arsenal team of Cesc, Van persie, Adebayor, Gallas, Diaby, Hleb, Kolo, Flamini, Sagna, young Walcott and Clichy came very close to win the league unfortunately Wenger persisted with perhaps the worst GK in Europe even more worse than Karius in Almunia.

Yep, just needed a decent keeper really. I remember we were linked with deals for Schwarzer and Jaaskelainen. Both were available quite cheap, and while not obviously world class, they were far better than Almunia. Also perhaps needed a good DM, as always. So frustrating with arsenal in those days, Wenger got us so close to having a fantastic squad, but just refused to push the boat out for 1 or 2 more signings. I know we didn’t have much money, but surely worth it just to take us to the next level. They didn’t need to be top class expensive players either!

Wasn't it £80k a week for 6 appearances a season. I do remember him owning Lpool at Anfield, and then getting injured again. Must have been a distant relative of Darren Anderton

Not a surprising statement from Pogba at all. Diaby has got to be one of the greatest of "Greats to be" whom never made it due to injury. If I think back to the young healthy Diaby and the player he was, then imagine the career, free of major injury developing. I don't doubt for a second he'd be a better player than Pogba or at the very least just as good. Such a shame, genuinely think he'd have won it all over his years.

I think Diaby had the potential to be great, but he had a lot to learn, he was defensively horrible when playing for Arsenal.
I feel bad for him that he was denied so much of his career, still, he was paid a fortune when you consider how little he actually delivered.

Hmm not sure he was ever that great

His dribbling ability was unreal at times, particularly for someone of his height. Dembele at Spurs had a similar ability of being able to ghost past people at will (when on form) but the rest of his game wasn't that special

The problem with world class Injured players is that A) they are never fit long enough to hit a poor patch of form, and B) the myth of their quality is exaggerated whilst they are injured (otherwise known as Jack Wilshere e

Fair point but I think you're being unfair to Wilshere's god given talent. His failure to fulfil his potential, it would seem, has been his poor attitude to fitness and training. I'm working on the basis that the recurrent injury in his case, would not have been quite so recurrent had he not had a penchant for a ciggy and listened when told "Release the ball sooner"

Alot more to the Wilshere demise than random bad luck. I don't think Diaby's off the pitch antics played such a big part, the way it has with Jacky Boy. Though I get what you're saying regarding no time for bad form. But in Diaby's case, I think we saw enough to know that the form we did see, was S.O.P I'd actually say in his case, the poor sod always got injured with form on the up. We NEVER got long enough to see his best form or his worst

Diaby whilst tactically on the defensive side wasn't brilliant, when he attacked, he was sublime. Still managed to go world cup despite injuries. Used to own Liverpool everytime
