African Teams in the World Cup

BBC have done an interesting article regarding teams from Africa at the World Cup, asking the question if an African nation will reach the semi-finals?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44070259

Pele made a prediction in the early 90s that an African nation would win a World Cup by 2000, which obviously did not happen and I can't see it happening anytime soon.

There has been some strong African performances with Quarter-Final apperances by Cameroon (1990), Senegal (2002) and Ghana (2010) the best the continent has managed.

But some observers cite South Korea reaching the Semi-Final (albiet dubiously and on home soil) as a reason why African nations should be doing better.

I think the Ivory Coast golden generation team of the last decade could've reached the Semi-Finals, though they did fall victim to a couple of tough groups in 2006 and 2010, 2014 wasn't the case and it was ultimately a flop on the world stage for them.

Some may say Ghana were cheated by Suarez in that Quarter-Final against Uruguay, but his cheating didn't go unseen and they still missed a penalty to win it.

The last World Cup yielded little for African teams and the Cameroon side were an absolute joke that tournament. Though Nigeria and Algeria did reach the last 16

As for the current crop Egypt have a decent group and if Salah plays well then they could go far, the rest of the team is poor though.

Pretty sure Morocco and Tunisia will exit in the group stages, same for Nigeria although they do look a stronger team than the other two, but there group is relatively tough.

Senegal have the kindest group on paper, but a repeat of their debut in 2002 will be some achievement.

Anybody have any optimism for the African teams this World Cup?

Still it all comes down to proper nutrition and physical fitness because without that it doesn't matter if you're black or white, you'd be weak and seeing as it's the third world, you can count on them being less physically fit and healthy, compared to our white and black players over here.

Race row or not the fact that someone reasons like this is amazing.

Shieeet.

By this logic Africans are better nourished than Europeans, feeding on natural and organic foods as opposed to the trash in Europe.

The prevalence of lifestyle diseases linked to diets will attest to this.

Ah yes good point. They don't have all this manufactured stuff full of ingredients that give you cancer in Africa.

Fool, check out average life expectancy in Africa, and then in Europe.
Get back to me on that.

Why do scousers chat a lot of crap, is it a generation of dipping bins that causes brain malfunction?

Why does everything have to be about these people or that people. Scousers this scouters that.

Says a lot about your mentality. Also, life expectancy isn't the same as saying you can count on Africans being less physically fit and healthy, compared to our white and black players over here.

Dude, Africans are on average far more physically fit and healthier than Europeans. Where are you getting your facts from?

Life expectancy isn't influenced by factors like AIDS and access to medical facilities or access to quality medical facilities, not physical fitness and health

What a ridiculous thing to say. Over half the population now obese, sitting at work, driving home, sitting on the couch and sleeping while cancer, diabetes and a myriad of lifestyle diseases continue to wreck havoc at levels not seen anywhere else except perhaps America.

Look, Africa is behind Europe in nearly every way but physically fitness and health of the general population is not even close to being one of them.

There is a high rate of cardiovascular disease in West Africa (I’m West African). Just a fact to thro into the debate.
