As of 1997 the term obstruction was removed from the FIFA rules and the powers to award an indirect free-kick in the box went away (save pass-backs.) Should the game be looking at bringing back obstruction in the box and the auld indirect free-kick to give the refs a little leeway when it comes to decisions in the penalty area as they are clearly scared to award a Penalty unless you stab someone in there.

Nope
A foul in the box is a foul and therefore a penalty
It makes for a better game and is less controversial than was it obstruction or not

Agree on that too. Where else on the pitch can you get away with playing the man like that and not the ball ?
If a striker does that to the GK or defender in the box it’s a foul, but not the other way round ? Utterly inconsistent and ridiculous rule

Keep the penalty for fouls in the box rule and make shepherding the ball out a foul.

It's what us auld fookers used to call obstruction and would be a foul.
All the holding and blocking in the box, punish it appropriately and coonts will stop doing it.

refs are scared too if you look at every corner you can see a penalty or a freekick that is completely ignored and even if they see it they pull them apart and dont deal with the issue.
