Can anyone explain why...

Walker and Tripper are both playing? And Walker is effectively a RCB?

Has this been done in the friendly games or just today?

Along with Maguire that defence worries me

got out of jail there

didn't even realise Kane was on the pitch until he scored

What a dull lifeless game

Should beat Panama and qualify but better tests await

Started well. Lingard and Stirling need to improve their finishing.

Walker is poor at CB. Slow on the ball and gets caught out too often. Although the same can be said about both Stones and Maguire.

England's back 3 get caught out far too often and easily when exposed which shouldn't be happening. That's the point of a back 3.

There's some real nerves out there today. Most of these lads feel over their heads today, but luckily it wasn't against Belgium. I think we'll see a lot of improvement. Harry came through today, but you'll see Lingardo, Sterling and Rashford scoring goals soon enough, and they facking better!

Jesse missed a couple, first one was his first touch of the game though I think. He’d have smashed those in if he was in a United shirt!

Walker is our best attacking defender and he was the one who attacked the least! Not sure we need both him and Trippier in the side.

Alli and Sterling were useless and Kane proved yet again he’s a top top goal scorer but a pretty average footballer.

Other than that, job done

I thought Trippier played well. I’d keep him in if I had to choose.

If Trippier is the wingback then drop Walker and play Cahill

Playing Walker at centreback is stupid as he is a terrible defender and made his career successful by abandoning the fullback position and pretending he was a winger at every opportunity. He makes Marcelo look disciplined.

Can people not work this out?

In this system, it’s really important to have players in the back three that can bring the ball out and play. Especially as we don’t have a CM who excel at this. Walker is good on the ball, fast and can move forward and defend the channels with more comfort than a more conventional CB.

I like England’s set up. I think getting RLC & Rashford into the team could add a bit of extra dynamism. Would prefer Rose at LWB too.

Stirling needs to improve his finishing + ball control, passing, decision making and the ability to stay standing rather than falling over like bambi all the time.

He’s a brilliant player though, he showed that this year. It’s up to Southgate to get out of him what Guardiola does (or accept that he doesn’t fit the system and stop playing him).
