48 Team World Cup

Awful idea.

Tunisia last night were one of the worst teams I've seen at a world cup. They could do nothing but foul, dive, playact and timewaste.

Watching their players cry at the final whistle after their constant gamesmanship was sweet to see.

The argument will be "that's the only way they can compete". Then I say to you, what's the facking point of them being at the world cup?

Why do we enable these dross teams to attend the world cup just to playact, dive and foul? And now we want to extend the world cup to 48 teams?!

Joke.

You still haven't given any logical reason why having more money would be a hindrance on attracting better players
=========
It won't hinder them getting better players, the hinderance is already there. More money won't help level the playing field in Europe.
It would probably distort the domestic league, another negative.

RE Monaco - all their best players gone and decline. They will struggle to attract top players, and will have to rebuild the same way they built the team in the first place. CL run hasn't helped them level the playing field, that much is very obvious.

You are again distorting a champions league run with having a completely level playing field. Extra money is the only way clubs can compete.

Not even a level playing field. Just closing the gap. Wouldn't happen.
The big clubs aren't big because of the CL...

Of course it would be a fluke.
Progressing further would not entice better players to join, that is showing a massive misunderstanding of football.

Of course it would. Players want to play for clubs that do well, not only that, they want to get paid as much as possible. To suggest otherwise shows a massive misunderstanding about human nature.

They won't pay well though...

I'm biased of course cause a 48 team WC means we (Ireland) have a better chance of qualifying, but this notion of "bad tactics" is ridiculous, it's football and teams use the tactics that will best help them win (in most cases).

----------------------------------------------------------------------

They were one of the main offenders at the euros. Set pieces and anti-football, yet I read a report saying they were “unlucky” to lose to France. 1 shot on target which was a pen after about 4 mins and spent the rest of the game ignoring the ball so they could defend. Each to their own but that’s exactly what I don’t want to see at major tournaments.

It's not defensive football I've an issue with, it's the playacting, fouling, timewasting etc etc.

Defensive football (even though we mock United for it) is obviously the right way for some teams to play but I can't stand the above.

Can anyone see another team "doing a Greece" at a major tournament??

I detest time wasting and trying to break up the flow of the games with diving and niggly fouls. The amount of time someone goes down with cramp when their team is winning is uncanny.... absolutely hate it. Just get up and play for fack sake.

Its the world cup, that's why teams from the world play in it.
