Vicki Sparks - Female Commentator

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-44553707

So, history is made with the first female conmentator in the World Cup.

Myself personally, I’m not against diversity at all. If someone has the ability to do something with more quality than someone else then you rightfully assign the task to that individual until the one lacking quality becomes better.

Vickis commentary was hardly going to get it perfect first time was she? But this doesn’t mean Diversity isn’t immune to criticism. It feels like criticism is slammed as sexism whereas my issue is her lack of experience comentating on medium size games - she seems to have jumped from Rookie to Expert in almost no time.

The case for this is that Vicki would be an “inspiration" to other females out there that dream of being commentators.
The case against is that we are telling aspiring female commentators that you can commentate at the top level without much experience and you are immune to Male criticism because that is simply Misogynistic if you do not agree with this method.

What do you all think? I believe in working your way up and achieving these positions and not having them handed to me because of my Gender

I see no reason what so ever to even be considering this a problem.

Commentry is all about memory, voice and technique.

Jonathon pearce is mentioned. I can state with absolute confidence that his is an absolutely woeful comentator who is annoying at ruins game enjoyment.

IF a woman has a voice that doesn't grate and can add to the game great. lets get them going.

Commentary is one thing, but I think having a woman in the studio talking to guys about football is a bit rubbish.
Men just act differently when talking to a woman - it all seems a bit awkward and forced imo..

The problem for me was , not that she’s a woman or she may miss a bit of the play , anyone can do that , it’s just her voice made my ears bleed and if it hadn’t been for the red button option , I unfortunately would have had to watch this game in mute . Not against ny body Comm , just feel their voice has to be easy on the ear

Commentary is an incredibly difficult art, hence there are so few commentators around and the likes of Motson did it for so long.

I find it abysmal that, without being anywhere near the level of other commentators at the world cup, she's been promoted to that level just because she's female.

Evidently, this must be a part of the BBC’s current “Hear Her” season 😉

Don't think a female voice suits football commentary. Then again, that's more down to me just not being used to it.
