Zaire freekick

I think we've all had a laugh at this infamous freekick from the 74 World Cup..

What I didn't know until a few minutes ago was the reason for it. It's pretty grim tbh.

Makes you grateful to be born somewhere as free and liberal as the UK. Imagine being terrified to lose a game of football knowing that you might never be allowed home to see your family and friends. Can only imagine the threat hanging over the North Koreans head a few years ago.. mind everyone making jokes about it too, but it must be real.

It’s things like this that pash me off about people complaining about democracy in the uk. People should see more of the world before complaining about democracy and the state of the country here

I know there is a sombre side to this & it's a JA record for me.

I agree with every single post so far.


I was in a pub in Skye watching the game.

Some agreeable Yanks joined me and I was explaining soccer to them.

I couldn't explain that Zaire fella.

They were wondering why most of the Slighachan bar was rolling on the

deck howling.
