Grant McCann

Finally announced, my opinion is a great appointment.
An attacking left midfielder , great at set pieces with an eye for a goal.
I watched him as a player at Cheltenham Town, initially came on loan from West Ham's Academy. Was voted player of the season for a couple of times.
Always gave 100% percent , a true team player.
Was sold on to Barnsley , then ended up as a player at Peterborough.
A firm favourite at Boro, he ended up taking the interim manager's role when Steve Evans moved on.
Things are on the up , will be interesting to see who he recruits.

Sorry Cheltenham, I should have checked, but good to hear from you again. Have you been out of the country - no posts or DPL etc.?

No, still living in Cheltenham.
If I'm honest I Lost a bit of interest with football in general. Although went to both Rotherham games.
Always reading the Free Press and keeping up to date with going ons at the Keepmoat. Looking forward to a new manager with new ideas and posting on this board.

I'm looking forward to hearing his opening interview; in case you haven't read Liam Holden's article I do think it's worth a look - see https://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk/sport/football/doncaster-rovers/liam-hoden-continuity-looks-to-have-been-key-in-doncaster-rovers-appointment-of-grant-mccann-1-9224602

Since the DFP story stating that Gavin Strachan had to be retained by McCann GS has left the club with immediate effect. Assuming that no-one is telling porkies the only possibilities seem to be that: Gavin thought he had been passed over; someone has offered him a better job or he didn't want to be McCann's number two. Bad for the club.

Did Strachen leave of his own accord, or is McCann bringing someone despite what the Board was said to want? It is a little worrying as the players are supposed to really like GS. Both GS and Strachen were at Peterborough at times with Fergie. I do not know if at the SAME time, but may be there was a problem there.

I see the DFP have a video interview with GMcC beating the OS who really ought to enforce their first claim on his statements especially as we pay money to IFollow for access!!

The management of the media department seem to have failed in their fundamental task - yet again!

Until today I didn’t quite know what to make of the week or so since GMcC was appointed. He has not thrust himself forward to make any big statements of intent or to make bold promises.

I think that a good manager in any field taking on a new job should see how things run to begin with, Making big changes on Day 1 is not a good idea unless you are replacing someone or trying to rectify something which has utterly failed. And he is taking over from an effective manager of a team that was not in crisis.

So I admire him for taking time to study how the previous system works (because no radical changes have been mentioned) and how he might improve things.

I got this impression from listening to the recent interviews with Copps and Andy Butler.

So, so far so good…

11 months on from the original post and GM has delivered a brand of football in keeping with his playing days ethos. Great times ahead for the Donny faithful.
Will be waiting to see who comes in to strengthen the squad.
Highlight of my season.
The away performance at Bristol Rovers.
