Goal keeping is really the only specialist position that you have a specialist coach for, you may get ex players working with the strikers but you don’t have a head striker coach permanently employed.

If you did and the strikers were as poor as our keepers have been over the last so many years, would the coach still be in a job?

I’m not going to sit here and say that he’s sucking people off as they walk through the door or drives Klopps mum to the shops twice a week.

I’ll judge him on the performances that his department produces just like I would a manager and they’ve been gash.

You absolutely do have specialist coaches for other positions.

Either way, as said, it certainly is possible he keeps his job under multiple people despite not being good at it.

But you don’t have head rightback coach, head midfielder coach.

He may keep his job because he’s a well liked fella who is good in the dressing room, I don’t know.

One things obvious, the keepers under his control haven’t worked! He’s not been he 2 years it’s been 7!

Well you have defensive coaches, midfield and strikers alongside fitness, etc. Robbie Fowler coached pur strikers for example.

As I said before you get people working with them and coaching them but you don’t get them in a named head coaching role long term. Taking all the coaching sessions like a head goalkeeper does for 7 years.

Achterberg had never been a head goalkeeper coach before us, what experience did he have at coaching a top keeper or even improving a dire keeper.

Yep fair enough, you're right about niche coaching, although it's the same at every club so I'm guessing that it's completely different drills to outfield players hence the position.

I do think though that you can just buy a better keeper and it's as simple as that. There's two variables (three if you count facilities) and they're talent and coaching.

I don't know loads about keepers, like when to get set, where to stand in 1 on 1's, etc, and I don't know if his drills are any good but I'm reasonably certain that if we bought Courtois (who himself has been criticised in the last 12 months) we'd have a better goalkeeper for the entirety of his peak years regardless of how people drill him in training.

So if it’s as simple as signing a better keeper and his knowledge is so far reaching why have we signed the keepers we have?

We’ve not spend huge sums on these keepers And whilst Karius is still young I don’t see him improving enough to be our long term option. Mignolet is finished, he’ll only ever get back in as number 1 if Karius gets injured or makes another absolute howler.

Thinking about it, Mignolet could be back in as number 1 by September!

See that’s the thing with bringing a top keeper in, many of them bring they own coach with them.

Continues continuity and comfort.

I do agree that top keepers along with any other player in other positions, they just know what they’re doing and when to do it.

Talent can’t be coached into you.

Yes and no imo.

Yes sign a better keeper who's proven.

The potential aspect is surely Karius who was voted in the top two/three keepers.

Maybe keepers like Mig and Karius would be worse without Atcherburg. I genuinely don't know.
