England 0 - 1 Croatia...not coming home....

Just in case you diidn't know.......

Each match gets bigger and bigger and bigger.....and ginormous

I remember 1990 and the hype but it feels different now, I'm older (?) more cynical, more skint (3 kids!), less patriotic (was I ever? 🤔) and never surprised by anything.

Apart from this. Amazing to see all these football fans, some of them even know the offside rule. Still it's a unifying and pleasant sight to see and I it.

Musings here - would be nice to see thoughts of the clubs whose players are representing us - Spurs, Liverpool, Leicester even....

Oh, and keep the debate about Raheem Sterling going, it's fascinating me and I'll confess to not knowing which way to jump.....

If I get more than 50 comments, my work is done.......until the next game which might not....... just might not be......Reading v Derby County on August 3rd.

Let’s hope there is a similar boost to English football like there was after 1990. This run has given the country a boost when everything else seems to be going down the bog.

Same old same old.
Where is all this confidence coming from that we’ve turned a corner?
Abismal second half performance from England and we deserved what we got.
We had virtually a bye to the final and still we couldn’t put away Croatia who were there for the taking.

Just another failure. The only reason we weren’t home earlier is that we hadn’t played anyone half decent.

Next time round Argentina, Holland, Italy, Germany, Spain and Brazil won’t be as bad as they are now. So we have zero chance of getting to a semi final with this bunch of workmanlike no hopers.

Blew it big time.

Would have preferred an England v France final but to go deep and try to defend a lead they lost their chance when they didn't go after it early in the 2nd half and get that all important insurance goal.

Only going to be one winner because they pass it so well and the fresh team looked jaded.

For me it's a win/win, I don't deny my soft spot for Croatia, the missus is French so I get to drink without grief from around lunchtime Sunday.

Looking forward to the first game of the season now, thanks for the thread Viewfrom...roll on the next

Thanks for the thread, View.

All the best to the Rams this coming season. You can have second spot if Forest can have the title, agreed?

Most always want the team that beats them to go and lift the trophy. I think Croatia deserve it as they have been through three lots of extra time and shown some real bottle in the process.

France have been a bit mixed and who would want the sight of Pogba and co prancing around the Luzhniki Stadium 🤮.

The match showed that England are lacking in midfield but there has definitely been a turning of the corner when it comes to approach and the presence of a strategy involving all levels of the game in this country. It's fashionable to denigrate any team we beat but Sweden defeated France in qualifying and finished top of the group that had the World champions in it. Croatia played far inferior teams to Sweden or Colombia in their own knockout matches but needed penalties to beat both.

I think Croatia are a decent team and give them great credit for how they did not buckle when outplayed in the first half and ended much stronger. Had Kane scored his golden chance we would almost certainly have won. A lot of the players on show are likely to improve but to realistically be regarded as one of the best in the world we need more composed and creative midfielders. Maybe players like Foden or Maitland-Niles will come through. I think there is more to be hopeful about than for a while.
