So England have had a successful World Cup where they finished 4th much further than expected. However what is clear to us Arsenal fans is that Danny Welbeck was our only representative in the squad! A player who lets face it was nearer 23rd than 1st in the squad pecking order.
For a club who on paper is the 6th best in the country looking to grow and get better, I don’t think this is good enough. Is it any wonder why some fans of opposition clubs question our contribution to the national team?
We need to start building young talent. This is clear with an aging squad. I’m glad some young players have been signed and our future is looking better. However, the signings were not English! We need to develope and build our own English talent from our academy. Players who can connect with the fans but also be successful with our club.
Unfortunately the players we have had in recent years just don’t cut it. Wilshere being the most famous example who’s injury problems has made his England future bleak. Kieran Gibbs was an average at best left back who has only had a handful of caps and is now playing for a championship club. Carl Jenkinson who has never been convincing and his days at the club are most likely numbered. So who do we have now that can break into our squad and then potentially the England Squad?
Reiss Nelson: This boy looks talented. He can play multiple positions and already has premier league and European experience. His playing time is still limited but I believe it will grow this season. Will he get into the England squad this year? I doubt it but there’s nothing stopping him getting into our squad.
Callum Chambers: At the moment he is probably the most obvious and likely player to get in. He is obviously liked by the new boss and has recently signed a new contract. If his game against Boreham Wood is anything to go by then it appears Emery wants him to play Defensive Midfield. If he can shine here then I can see an England cap for him this season. It is a position I believe England need filling. The only problem is that he’s not the only player at the club who plays here and is likely behind them. Time to fight for it Callum!
Rob Holding: I don’t know what Unai Emery thinks of Rob. To me he has shown glimpses of being a top defender but also glimpses of being mistake prone. I think he needs to be playing now to progress and can see him going on loan. I can’t see him getting a call from Gareth this season.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles: A versatile player who has just come out of a season to which I think he’s grown the most. He is talented and I can see him getting better. I do think he needs to go for it this year. This needs to be his season like the 13/14 season was for Bellerin. If he can make it his season then who knows!
These are just a few players but we really do need to grow more. I haven’t actually been that impressed with our academy in recent years and with a club that likes to pride itself in bringing up young players and making them into top class footballers that isn’t good enough.
What other players can people see breaking into our squad in the future who is English and maybe a possibility of being a squad player for the Euros or next World Cup?

England could benefit from encouraging more young players to play and develop abroad. Would probably have more diverse skill set to choose from then. But it’s all a cultural thing. British people in general are never comfortable moving abroad. We should teach foreign languages much earlier in school.but Basically got a culture of arrogance mixed with laziness, thinking we’re better than the foreigners, and have no need to learn their language, as they can just learn ours. Shame, wish I could speak another language. Embarrassing when you travel abroad and find many people can speak multiple languages

I agree that Leon Bailey shouldn’t have been picked but I definitely disagree on the reason why he wasn’t!
Southgate said he’s not playing regular premier league football! What is regular first team football for a top 4 bundesliga team not good enough. What motivation to play abroad does that give

at international level harry kane is gash

True. Only the 19 goals in 30 games for England isn't it and just about to claim the Golden Boot at the WC. If only he was as good at international level as top quality strikers like Owen or Rooney, we might have made it last the last 16.
I 100% guarantee you Kane will be England's all time leading goalscorer by the time his career is over
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah he might be but 95% of his goals will be against the likes of Panama, San Marino, Lithuania, etc

The same applies to all top international goal scorers due to the amount of meaningless friendlies and and poor quality qualifiers teams have to play. Kane has a great goalscoring record for England, has captained them to a WC SF and is likely to win the Golden Boot.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Assuming that he wins the golden boot at the world cup, Harry Kane will have achieved personal glory in each of the last 3 seasons, without winning any trophies at club kr international level.
Any other player that has had that level of personal glory has managed to win at least one trophy.
Is Harry Kane a team player?

Team players don’t choose personal accolades over team achievements.
Kane cares more about the golden boot than the World Cup hence why he chose to shoot not pass to sterling

He’s eligible for England I believe

He was?
Born and raised in Jamaica, played for their youth sides, went to Germany via Belgium.
Ah, just read this from Wiki:
Bailey was thought to have been eligible to represent England as he has two grandparents who have English passports.[15] However, he is not eligible to play for England as his grandparents were not born in England.[16]
