Before we slate the Americans we should remember that Chris Morris tore a new one into the moral fabric of this country a couple of decades ago with Brass Eye.

Guns have always been a part of American life and culture, and that won't change anytime soon. There is hope though as younger liberal Americans are more and more against the use of guns.

We are talking about a country where half the population do not have a passport and 1/3rd live in absolute poverty - the richest most powerful country in the world cant sort these issues out, so what chance have they got with the gun laws. The Wire was based on real stories, do you think the corner boys will give up their guns anytime soon? Or the rich old white people who kill animals for sport and are afraid of people who don't look like them.

I agree it's shocking, but I think America is given too much credit sometimes. We think of it as this big amazing modern country and leader of the free world. That description might be true of places like New York, California, Florida, Chicago etc, but there are plenty of areas/states that time forgot, proper Sh£t holes.

For sure but imo they give themselves the credit.

Tv and film are a huge part of the myth, you rarely see the America outside of what you describe.

I've always found their fascination with guns so odd.

Like how you pointed out the wire was a great shout thats America you don't normally see they'd rather you watch bay watch or miami vice

I find it hilarious how many dumb fecks in Britain seem to be preaching that this sort of thing is the real America when it really REALLY isn't. How gullible .

I have lived here eight years and met a stack of people living in three different states and the only 'insane' folk I have come across are the ones that believe there is a wee fella ip there looking to save a few of them if they follow certain rules.
