Is our current transfer policy the wrong way round?
When replacing players such as Dembele/ Toby surely we should bring in their replacement first and then sell the players we longer need?
It is much easier to sell a player that is in demand than it is to sign a highly rated player.
I know Levy likes to hold out until the last possible moment both in buying and selling players but this approach can work both ways.
If we sell Dembele and Toby for, say, a combined £80m then the clubs we're trying to sign replacements from know we have a huge wad of cash burning a hole in our pockets and so hold out for more.
The lack of a proper pre-season for late signings I don't think anyone would dispute is another big issue at Spurs.

How do you know that deals are not already in place for some incoming players, but are yet to be announced.
It can also work the other way, bring players in early and clubs then know we need to let some players go and will low ball on offers.
The best way to get top prices is if you give the impression that you do not really want to lose the player, have an over sized squad and clubs know you need to get rid.

Can’t always get the one in that you want beforehand, but they should certainly be running concurrently.

Ironically for once we did it the right way round that summer. I.e. we spent the Bale money before we had sold him. However we squandered most of it.
