Bruce was slow and would often take players out by running into them.

Great header though.

I’d have Pallister but not Bruce

I agree that Bruce was a level below those mentioned, but still a good defender and useful at the other end. He scored 19 for us one season and I will never forget his two late headers against Sheff Wednesday.

I suspect that he also didn't look after himself very well. Him and his mates were in the same hotel as me in ibiza one year and they were all banging gear up their noses around the pool. I didn't see Woodgate do it himself, but he was around it. He always looked like he had been up all night too

Yes he did look like a crack head at times.

Back to Bruce, them two headers are one of my best memories in football.


We might still be waiting for that first title in years had they not gone in.

I bumped into him a fe me times in Middlesbrough while an ex was doing some History stuff at The University around 2000. He had a large group of mate who he would take out whenever up and he would hammer the ale.

He also fell into roadworks outside a bar called The House intoa 5ft hole, just about when his injuries started

What about Branislav Ivanovic?He was a good consistent centre back for Chelsea.

We asked his mates if he got on it and they said no, but it wasn't convincing. We knew and they knew we knew. You're a man of the world Shinjury; when you know you know.

As for Bruce's headers, it is a big memory of mine. It was a warm sunny day and I was sat outside on the front doorstep with my dad's old grey pocket radio listening to the game as Bruce pulled us level then scored the winner. Living in Leeds, I'd had a load of stick from all my mates for the past year after their title win, so it was a big release when Bruce scored. Good times.
