Who does he start ahead of when his competition is Son, Eriksen and Dele?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What a ridiculous thing to put.

I've seen Son play in games where you wondered if he'd ever kicked a ball before.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ve seen Lamela, Dele Alli, Eriksen and literally every other player in the world do this. What is your point? That a footballer can have a bad game?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes but when Son has a stinker he literally looks like he can't play the game. As you say though all players can have bad games or loss of form, injuries and suspensions so plenty of opportunities for Lamela.

Happy days!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah he has his consistency issues and sometimes he can be attrocious but conversely his performance vs Stoke last season was one of the best I have ever seen from a Spurs player. Also in terms of goals and assists Lamela’s best season doesn’t even come close to Son’s - yet both have their uses (Lamela more useful in tricky away games).

It may be an unpopular opinion based on some of the reaction, but signing two decent players in the prime of the career on long contracts *IS* a good thing
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I completely agree and I'm glad they have both signed I just happen to believe that if he can stay injury free Lamela is the better player of the 2 (especially in grudge matches).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lamela better than Son? Are you mad?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Remember the little ball Lamela dinked through for Eriksens winner at City? Son can only dream about having that kind of skill and vision.

As I say I'm glad they both signed. If you are away at the Emirates you call on Lamela and if you are at home to Wycombe in the Cup you play Son.

Both very different players. Son better goal threat. Lamela better creativity and I remember we played some of our better games with Lamela initiating the press. Read some quotes from the coaching staff including Poch which they say his energy being great for team. I think we all can agree that Poch knows better than all of us to which players he trust and are vital to the team.

What about Son's assist for Dele in the 2-0 win against City? He was superb that day and got MOTM, and was in great form overall. In the same game Lamela missed a penalty, one that Son wanted to take.

I don't think pens should be used to try and settle this, Messi is alot better than both of them and he seems to miss plenty these days.

The missed penalty was just an additional detail. The main point was Son's assist:

As good as anything Lamela has done.

Even if his form tailed off at the turn of 2018, he is more consistent than Lamela and makes bigger contributions to our success. He's the better and more important player.

We are not going to agree on this because we both feel strongly that the player we support is the more consistent. Lets hope they both have a good season with no injuries or National Service getting in the way.

Yes I hope they do. With Son expected to be out for the Asia Cup, Lamela may well get the chance to step in and show us what he's got, so we'll see.

Surely this isn't about replacing Sonny, Deli or Christian but quality in depth? We continually go on about having a number of high quality players and Eric easily falls into this bracket as Poch obviously believes.

posted on 22/7/18

Why would we not renew their contracts? Whilst we’d agree that they’re the weaker of the established 4 players behind Kane (not including Moura as he’s not played much), it makes sense to extend their deals. It protects their value and we’re not legally binded to keep them both until 2022 & 2023 are we?

Crap like Sissoko, Janssen, Llorente and Nkoudou however can go for cheap or they can go for free, couldn’t care less about them.
