Now that is a toy cue twister, never laughed at Morecambe and Wise or Fry and Laurie or Scotch and Wry or Frankie and Josie, must be a generational thing

Must be. I never liked The Young Ones or League of Gentlemen. Stuff like Little Britain and The Office leaves me child for the most part.

Porridge and Open All Hours were brilliant

Favourite comedy show of all time is The Fast Show

In all honesty I've never found any English sitcom REALLY funny.

By English I mean set in a uniquely English context.

Cult status stuff like Fools & Horses - 2/3 smiles per episode max.

Best 'English' comedies for me haven't actually been English.

Black Books, Father Ted, The Thick Of It, IT Crowd etc

yup!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Fawlty Towers is the best English comedy.

There have been some excellent English comedies, often quite a gentle comedy, and I would add Yes Minister and Dads' Army to the list.

But yon Black Books is utter keech of the first order and odure. And whoever told that kant Billy Bailey that he is a comedian deserves a good boot in the baws. Zach is funnier! FFS what am I saying? Curly on a bitter-rant about good Tims/bad bears is feckin funnier than yon cant.
