Realistic Expectations - United

Noticed a few of these for other teams so thought I'd do one for United.

I think it's more about whether we can get better out of the players who underperformed last season than what we do in the transfer market at this late stage. If Pogba, Lukaku and even Fellaini can reproduce their WC form; if Bailey stays fit and Lindelof settles in; if Sanchez does what we expected then, yes, I think we could do a lot better than last season (i.e. close the gap).

If none of the above happen, then I can't see us getting top four. Liverpool have fixed all their problems over the past twelve months, Chelsea and Arsenal will also be better. The only top 4 that I think might deteriorate is Spurs.

Spurs are always the team apparently that are going to miss out. And yet they have been the most consistent of any club last three seasons. Top three, three years running. Whilst other clubs come and go in the top four. Spurs will be top two this season.

Season will start badly as usually happens in Jose's third season.

He will get into a fight with everyone at the club including the Tea Lady

The players will stop playing for him and he will blame them and curse their mothers.

He will get sacked around December and the club will hire a new manager that will take us on a 22 game winning run to win us the league

spurs are the only top team standing pat. they would be the most likly to drop out of the top 4. three years is a tiny blip in history. you of all people should know that.

Sam Allardyce puts Arsenal in second place, which puts us 6th by my estimations.

My expectations of the coming season based on current squad and manager:

1. Awful football
2. The humiliation of playing for a 0-0 at home to City and Liverpool and still coming away with 0 pts.
3. Mourinho blaming the world cup, lack of pre-season, shortened transfer window, a couple of our youngsters and Pogba if we aren't top three in October.
4. Martial tearing up Serie A.
5. Mourinho adopting a diamond formation of Matic, Fred, Pogba, and Lingard to accommodate a top two of Sanchez and Lukaku... Rashford will be playing at a level below Luke Chadwick, but will emerge in the second half of the season as the successor to Ashley Young at LB.
6. The previous point re: formation will utterly expose us as a team without any threat from fullbacks, making us very easy to defend against... The 81 crosses in a game record achieved under Moyes utterly smashed as teams pack 8 defenders into the width of the box at OT and cackle as Young and Valencia do sweet FA.
7. Mourinho to have fallen out with at least three of the squad by January.
8. Finish 6th.
9. Mourinho "leaves by mutual consent."
10. Arsene Wenger appointed manager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is about right. A small bout of initial optimism. Then a season of proper turgid football coming up.

Turgid.

A really good word to describe the way utd play football these days.

You can laugh, but it is factual. I am right and you're as per usual, wrong.
