Ince to Stoke

Having only lasted a season at Huddersfield, young Tom has joined Gary Rowett at Stoke for a reported fee of 10 million.

Many on here not a fan of Ince, but I liked him. Scored some great goals and is a talented lad.
Hope he gets a decent reception when he returns to Pride Park.

Do we get to see any of that 10 million transfer fee.?

I'm aware McCarthy has left Ipswich, but could have been a recommendation,?????

I can certainly see Thorne going, which would be a shame but I suppose the coaches are best placed know if he will struggle to establish himself again

GT has had three full seasons at Derby and only played in 27.5% of them, (38 out of 138 league games excluding 3 cup appearances).

He's only played 86 games in the last eight years for all clubs (nearly 11 games a season).

Not exactly value for money.

I saw many posts on WBA's site that said he was injury prone. Looks as if they were correct. I liked him as a Derby player but it seems he was a bad purchase.

I don't think he was a bad purchase Ramdini, I think he has been an unlucky purchase. Thorne was a fantastic player when he was on loan with us and then he did his cruciate and then several more injuries.

Agree with you VC. Not a bad purchase. He was especially good in the season leading up to the play off final with QPR.
Since then - pretty ordinary and we were carrying him in most games he played last season.

I wonder if any of his fee / wages was covered by insurance?

I have no idea how these things "work", but basically, he was great until we actually signed him (he was injured in a pre-season game before the ink on his signature was dry)?

Yes VC he was always good for Derby when he played.
I suppose unlucky describes it - but a few WBA fans knew he was injury prone. I wonder why we couldn't have known? Depends if his serious injuries (twice) were due to inherent weakness or simply bad luck.
But I did like him as a player and a character as I said before.

GT versus Nottingham Forest when he first joined us looked absolutely immense. Totally different class.

He worked best with Hughes and Hendrick either side of him and I think Hughes acknowledged this too with their link up.

( If only Dutch Steve had signed a DM instead of Ince, Bent, Lingaard etc...)

GT could do with a fresh start somewhere, psychologically the injuries he's had here can't be good for him.

He might come back to haunt us one day, but I don't think we'll get the best out of him here.

Bennett seems just as injury prone, and while, if only for his goal poaching instincts, he's actually put in a decent shift for the preseason games (much better than Blackman / Butters combined) I'm still not convinced he's one we're going to be able to rely on, or is likely to make it at this level due to things like his injuries / or one to be able to contribute when things aren't going well.
